  1. 21. Ribosomes and subunits from Escherichia coli studied by asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation

    Author : Mikael Nilsson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metabolic engineering; VHb; Vitreoscilla hemoglobin; E. coli; Escherichia coli; separation; subunits; ribosomes; Asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation; flow FFF; optimization; biotechnological production; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (FFF) separations of ribosomes and subunits have been studied. Ribosomal material was prepared from Escherichia coli (E. coli) cells and analyzed by the size separation technique. READ MORE

  2. 22. Heterogeneous electron transfer studies with ligninolytic redox enzymes and living bacteria. Applications in biosensors and biofuel cells

    Author : Vasile Coman; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cellobiose dehydrogenase; direct electron transfer; mediated electron transfer; self-assembled monolayer; flow injection analysis; amperometric biosensor; E. coli; succinate:quinone reductase; biofuel cell; B. subtilis; whole-cell biosensor;

    Abstract : The catalytic properties and the inter-domain electron transfer of cellobiose dehydrogenase (CDH) from the ascomycete fungus Myriococcum thermophilum adsorbed on graphite and thiol (SAM) modified gold electrodes were investigated using cyclic voltammetry, flow injection amperometry and UV-Vis spectroelectrochemistry. The fabrication and characterisation of a noncompartmentalised, mediator and cofactor free glucose–oxygen biofuel cell well-operating in glucose-containing buffers and human blood serum was performed. 3. 23. Extended-Spectrum ß-Lactamase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae : Antibiotic consumption, Detection and Resistance Epidemiology

    Author : Åse Östholm Balkhed; Lennart Nilsson; Håkan Hanberger; Hans-Jurg Monstein; Anita Hällgren; Mats Kalin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Extended-Spectrum ß-Lactamase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae; Antibiotic consumption; Detection Methods; Multiplex PCR; Resistance Epidemiology; Multi-resistance; E. coli; ESBL; fecal carriage; faecal carriage; travel;

    Abstract : ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae are emerging worldwide and they are frequently multi-drug resistant, thus limiting treatment options for infections caused by these pathogens.The overall aim of the thesis was to investigate ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae in a Swedish county. Abstract : The dissemination of members of the Enterobacteriaceae family with extended spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) and metallo-beta-lactamases (MBLs) has become a global concern. ESBLs and MBLs have been reported in humans, domestic animals, wildlife and the environment, and their isolation frequencies are increasing rapidly worldwide. READ MORE

    Abstract : Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from human activities are driving climate change, but the pending crisis could be mitigated by a circular carbon economy where released CO2 is recycled into commodity chemicals. Autotrophic microbes can make a contribution by producing chemicals, such as biofuels, from CO2 and renewable energy. READ MORE
