  1. 21. In search of early biomarkers in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma using multi-omics and bioinformatics

    Author : Emmy Borgmästars; Malin Sund; Ola Billing; Pär Jonsson; Zelmina Lubovac-Pilav; Oskar Franklin; Stefan Enroth; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pancreatic cancer; microRNA functional analysis; TPS; miRNomics; metabolomics; proteomics; plasma samples; early detection; risk; survival;

    Abstract : Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a very aggressive malignancy with a 5-year survival of 10 %. Surgery is the only curative treatment. Unfortunately, few patients are eligible for surgery due to late detection. Thus, we need ways to detect the disease at an earlier stage and for that good screening biomarkers could be used. 2. 22. Analysis of Metabolites in Complex Biological Samples Using LC/MS and Multivariate Data Analysis : Metabolic Fingerprinting and Detection of Biomarkers

    Author : Helena Idborg; Sven Jacobsson; Per-Olof Edlund; Jonas Bergquist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metabolomics; Metabonomics; Metabolic Fingerprinting; Drug Metabolism; Biomarkers; Human Plasma; Rat Urine; LC MS; ZIC-HILIC; UPLC; UHPLC; ToF; Curve Resolution; Peak Detection; Pattern Recognition; Classification; PCA; PLS; PARAFAC; N-PLS; Data Fusion; Hierarchical Modeling; Batch modeling; Data Concatenation; Breast Cancer; Phospholipidosis; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : To facilitate early diagnosis of diseases and elucidation of the processes involved in their development and progression, various specific compounds or ‘biomarkers’ are often monitored. The first step is to decide which compounds to analyze. READ MORE

  3. 23. Memory-based Lie Detection in Repeated Interviews: The Importance of Early Use of Mnemonics

    Author : Aleksandras Izotovas; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Deception detection; repeated interviewing; mnemonics; delay; between-statement consistency;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to examine how memory-enhancing (mnemonic) techniques used in an interview carried out immediately after an event affected truth tellers’ and liars’ responses in both an immediate interview and in a delayed interview. In Studies I-III participants took part in a mock intelligence scenario in which they were asked to take the role of an intelligence officer. READ MORE

  5. 25. Nuclease Activity as a Biomarker in Cancer Detection

    Author : Alien Balian; Frank Hernandez; Kajsa Uvdal; Baris Ata Borsa; Ester Boix Borrás; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nucleases; Nuclease activity; Cancer detection; Diagnosis; Oligonucleotides; Nucleic acid probes; MRI-probes; Activatable probes;

    Abstract : Nucleases are a group of enzymes that cleave the phosphodiester bonds in nucleic acids. As such, nucleases act as biological scissors that exhibit a plethora of fundamental roles, in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, dependent or non-dependent on their catalytic capability. READ MORE
