  1. 11. Virtual Pedagogical Agents - Beyond the Constraints of the Computational Approach

    Author : Magnus Haake; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Virtual pedagogical agents (VPAs), i.e. computer generated characters in pedagogical roles, populate the digital society in increasing numbers. They are found in educational programs from preschool to university. READ MORE

  2. 12. Development of Automated Algorithms for Epicardial Adipose Tissue Analysis in Computed Tomography and their Application in Population Based Research

    Author : David Molnar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epicardial adipose tissue; Artificial intelligence; Automatic analysis; Computed tomography; Coronary atherosclerosis; Pre-diabetes; Vector electrocardiography;

    Abstract : The epicardial adipose tissue (EAT), which surrounds the heart and is separated from other tissues only by the thin layers of the pericardium, has enjoyed intense research for the past decades. Increased inflammatory activity in the EAT in coronary artery disease has, together with associated volumetric expansion of the EAT and changes in its radiodensity supported theories that the EAT might play a role in the pathogenesis of coronary atherosclerosis or mirror its progression better than traditional risk factors. 3. 13. Food Web Ecology -- individual life-histories and ecological processes shape complex communities

    Author : Martin Hartvig; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; food web; community ecology; community assembly; size-structure; life-history omnivory; ontogeny; trophic interactions; trait based model; topology; emergent organisation; size-spectrum;

    Abstract : This thesis sets out a food web framework for size-structured populations. The framework enables an ecological approach to food web modelling as the individual life-history from birth, through maturation, and ultimately death is explicitly resolved with the use of bioenergetics based on individual body size. 4. 14. Early active rehabilitation after surgical treatment for lumbar disc herniation. A biopsychosocial function analysis

    Author : Gunilla Kjellby-Wendt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lumbar disc herniation; surgery; rehabilitation;

    Abstract : Introduction. Active rehabilitation initiated directly after surgical treatment after lumbar disc herniation has not previously been evaluated.Aims. The aim was to evaluate the effects of two home training programs, an early active training concept and a less active training program, after surgical treatment for lumbar disc herniation. READ MORE

  5. 15. Electrical and Optical Properties of AlGaAs/GaAs Aperiodic Superlattices and Resonant Tunneling Diodes. Theory, Design and Applications

    Author : Simon Mang Cao; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; exciton-assisted transport; miniband; high-speed quantum electronics; optical properties; ultrafast optoelectronics; field-induced transport; irregular superlattices; nanometer-scale heterostructures; laser diodes; resonant tunneling;

    Abstract : The objective of the work presented in this thesis is to study quantum transport and optical properties of aperiodic superlattices and resonant tunneling diodes using III-V semiconductor heterostructures grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The study follows a procedure of theoretical modeling, computer-aided design and simulation, sample growth, and measurements. READ MORE
