  1. 1. The impact of wind power variability on the least-cost dispatch of units in the electricity generation system

    Author : Lisa Göransson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wind power; intermittency; wind-thermal system; variability; cycling costs; electricity generation system; dispatch modeling; variation management;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the dynamics of electricity generation systems that involve high levels of wind power. Methods to account for wind power variability in electricity-dispatch models are explored, and the impact of wind power variability on the optimal output of the generation units, so as to meet the system load with the lowest possible cost (economic dispatch), is analyzed for several systems, for both regional and European cases. 2. 2. Dynamic Power System Load -Estimation of Parameters from Operational Data

    Author : Ines Romero; Industriell elektroteknik och automation; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; control engineering; robotics; Automation; large disturbances; Load modeling; normal operation; voltage stability; dynamic load models; modeling and identification; normalization in reactive load models; Elektronik och elektroteknik; Electronics and Electrical technology; Automatiska system; robotteknik; reglerteknik; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik;

    Abstract : The significance of load modeling for voltage stability studies has been emphasized by several disturbances, which have taken place in the past years. They have shown that the loads in combination with other dynamics are among the main contributors of prolonged low voltage conditions, voltage instability and collapse in the power system. READ MORE

  3. 3. Decentralization in the electricity system: At the household, community and city levels

    Author : Verena Heinisch; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Smart city; Storage systems; Power-to-heat; Optimization; Energy system modeling; Photovoltaic; Decentralization; Community energy; Prosumers;

    Abstract : Recent years have seen a rise in the number of implementations of small-scale generation and storage technologies for electricity and heat at different levels in the energy system. This trend towards decentralization of the system is driven by rapid decrease in technology costs, as well as the intentions expressed by various stakeholders to contribute to a carbon-neutral energy system. 4. 4. Combined heat and power plant flexibility - Technical and economic potential and system interaction

    Author : Johanna Beiron; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Combined heat and power; Flexibility; Process optimization modeling; Electricity price volatility; Waste to energy; Combined cycle; District heating; Dynamic modeling;

    Abstract : The share of variable renewable energy sources in electricity generation systems is expected to increase, leading to increased variability in the load that must be provided by conventional power plants or other flexibility measures. Thus, thermal power plants need to consider implementation of technical measures that enhance flexibility; to maintain profitability of operation with increased electricity price fluctuation, and to support electricity system stability. 5. 5. Energy system operation by Lagrangian relaxation

    Author : Erik Dotzauer; Andrew B. Philpott; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Due to its relatively high total energy efficiency, the application of cogeneration, i.e. simultaneous exploitation of power and heat from the energy transformation process, is receiving increased attention. In many countries cogeneration is today an essential element in the energy supply system. READ MORE
