  1. 1. The impact of wind power variability on the least-cost dispatch of units in the electricity generation system

    Author : Lisa Göransson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wind power; intermittency; wind-thermal system; variability; cycling costs; electricity generation system; dispatch modeling; variation management;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the dynamics of electricity generation systems that involve high levels of wind power. Methods to account for wind power variability in electricity-dispatch models are explored, and the impact of wind power variability on the optimal output of the generation units, so as to meet the system load with the lowest possible cost (economic dispatch), is analyzed for several systems, for both regional and European cases. 2. 2. A Techno-Economic Framework for the Analysis of Concentrating Solar Power Plants with Storage

    Author : Rafael Guédez; Björn Laumert; Zhor Hassar; Viktoria Martin; Alberto Traverso; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Concentrating solar power; thermal energy storage; techno-economic analysis; Termisk solkraft; termisk energilagring; techno-eknomiska analys; Energiteknik; Energy Technology;

    Abstract : Concentrating solar power plants can integrate cost-effective thermal energy storage systems and thereby supply controllable power on demand, an advantage against other renewable technologies. Storage integration allows a solar thermal power plant to increase its load factor and to shift production to periods of peak demand. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optimal Energy and Flexibility Dispatch of Grid-Connected Microgrids

    Author : Kyriaki Antoniadou-Plytaria; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flexibility; microgrids; Battery energy storage; optimization.; energy scheduling; energy management; distribution network;

    Abstract : This thesis proposes an optimization model to efficiently schedule energy and flexibilities of a grid-connected microgrid (MG) with non-dispatchable renewable energy sources and battery energy storages (BESs). The model can also be used to coordinate the MG operation with the connected upstream distribution grid and to assess the MG flexibility considering economic viability, technical feasibility, and BES degradation. 4. 4. Economic evaluation, value of life, stated preference methodology and determinants of risks

    Author : Björn Sund; Lars Hultkrantz; Ulf Persson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cost-benefit analysis; value of a statistical life; contingent valuation; cardiac arrest; defibrillation; calibration; sensitivity to scope; risk communication; response times; incident experience; risk perception.; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; Economics; Nationalekonomi; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : The first paper examines the value of a statistical life (VSL) for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) victims. We found VSL values to be higher for OHCA victims than for people who die in road traffic accidents and a lower-bound estimate of VSL for OHCA would be in the range of 20 to 30 million Swedish crowns (SEK). 5. 5. Combined heat and power plant flexibility - Technical and economic potential and system interaction

    Author : Johanna Beiron; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Combined heat and power; Flexibility; Process optimization modeling; Electricity price volatility; Waste to energy; Combined cycle; District heating; Dynamic modeling;

    Abstract : The share of variable renewable energy sources in electricity generation systems is expected to increase, leading to increased variability in the load that must be provided by conventional power plants or other flexibility measures. Thus, thermal power plants need to consider implementation of technical measures that enhance flexibility; to maintain profitability of operation with increased electricity price fluctuation, and to support electricity system stability.
