  1. 1. Analysing strategic energy-related investments in process industries : applied studies at a pulp and board mill

    Author : Magnus Karlsson; Lars J. Nilsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MIND; Industrial energy systems; Investment; pulp and paper; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The potential to reduce energy demand in industrial applications is often substantiaL Since energy cost represents a considerable share of the value added in several categories of process industries, a great potential exists for cutting costs through investment, for instance in energy efficiency improvements. However, industrial energy systems form complex relations not only within the industrial unit, but also in the interaction with their surroundings. READ MORE

    Abstract : In Sweden, buildings are responsible for about 40 % of total energy use and about 10 % of total CO2 emissions Today more than 60 % of existing Swedish residential buildings are over 40 years old and are in need of major renovation. In addition, 15 % of all multi-family buildings and 27 % of all single-family houses were built before 1945. READ MORE

  3. 3. Business Models for Sustainable Consumption : Identifying and Overcoming Barriers to Rental and Reuse of Home Furnishings

    Author : Heather Schoonover; Internationella miljöinstitutet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; sustainable consumption; sustainable business model; Product-Service System PSS ; rental; reuse; home furnishings;

    Abstract : It is widely recognised that society is consuming at levels and in ways that are unsustainable. Sustainable business models, broadly defined as those that consider economic, ecological and social value, hold promise for shifting consumption patterns. READ MORE

  4. 4. Subspace Computations via Matrix Decompositions and Geometric Optimization

    Author : Lennart Simonsson; Axel Ruhe; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; Numerical Analysis; Rank-revealing UTV; Jacobi-Davidson algorithm; Decomposition; Grassmann type algorithms; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with the computation of certain subspaces connected to a given matrix, where the closely related problem of approximating the matrix with one of lower rank is given special attention. To determine the rank and obtain bases for fundamental subspaces such as the range and null space of a matrix, computing the singular value decomposition (SVD) is the standard method. READ MORE
