  1. 1. Circular Business Models for Electric Vehicle Battery Second Life : Challenges, enablers, and preconditions from an ecosystem perspective

    Author : Reza Toorajipour; Koteshwar Chirumalla; Fredrik Wallin; Vinit Parida; Patricia Van Loon; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electric vehicle battery second life; circular business models; ecosystem; electric vehicles; EV batteries; circular business model innovation; circular economy; preconditions; second life configurations; battery second life; Innovation and Design; innovation och design;

    Abstract : Sustainability has become a critical issue due to global warming, scarcity of resources, and the high costs of raw materials. It is vital to reconsider linear business models and value creation processes and transition towards circularity. The growth of the electric vehicles market is promising; however, it comes with a major downside. READ MORE

  2. 2. Emergence and Dynamics of Circular Economy Ecosystem

    Author : Ida Eyi Heathcote-Fumador; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Digital Technologies; business ecosystem; circular economy ecosystem; ecosystem renewal; residual resources; strategy; knowledge appropriation; management;

    Abstract : The circular economy ecosystem (CEE) offers the potential to effectively manage the pressing issue of residual resources, encompassing waste and by-products that pose a challenge to our planet. Among various organizational forms, the ecosystem approach has emerged as the preferred method, fostering cross-industry collaboration to sustainably address residual resources. READ MORE

  3. 3. Applying Industrial Ecology in Urban Planning for the local integration of data centers

    Author : Cristina Ramos Caceres; Adolfo Sotoca; Marcus Sandberg; Cornelia Redeker; Luleå tekniska universitet; []

    Abstract : The data center industry’s rapid development raises questions about how to regulate data center locations and expansion, becoming a matter of high concern regarding Urban Planning. Data center facilities are commonly located and scaled (regarding power and size) responding to business profitability interests steered by the global market. READ MORE

  4. 4. Performance Measures of Road Infrastructure - A Life Cycle Thinking Approach

    Author : Babak Ebrahimi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Road infrastructure; Life Cycle Assessment LCA ; Lifetime Estimation; Geographic Information System GIS ; Life Cycle Thinking LCT ; Material Flow Analysis MFA ;

    Abstract : Roads have been an important asset of human society and the approach we adopt towards planning, designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining of the road infrastructure has significant consequences in the long-term for not only the humans, but all species on planet Earth. Hence, the lifecycle performance of the road infrastructure that sustain our socioeconomic development with a low environmental impact, while fulfilling their technical and functional requirements is of critical importance and needs to be improved. 5. 5. Groundwater-Seawater Interactions : Seawater Intrusion, Submarine Groundwater Discharge and Temporal Variability and Randomness Effects

    Author : Carmen Prieto; Georgia Destouni; Vassilios Kaleris; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydraulic engineering; Seawater intrusion; submarine groundwater discharge; coastal groundwater management; coastal zone management; temporal variability; temporal randomness; Vattenteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : Fresh groundwater quality and availability in coastal areas is affected by seawater intrusion into coastal aquifers, and coastal water quality and ecosystem status may be significantly affected by groundwater pollutants that are transported into coastal waters by submarine groundwater dis-charge (SGD). This thesis uses an overall regional perspective for investigating: i) seawater intru-sion and its possible control in sustainable coastal groundwater management; ii) SGD and its relevant quantification as one interacting part among the diverse main regional pathways of freshwater and tracer/pollutant inputs from land to sea; and iii) the integrated system functioning of both i) and ii) as main components of the same coastal groundwater system.
