  1. 11. Microbiome Of Ecotoxicity Assays

    Author : Asa Motiei; Elena Gorokhova; Natàlia Corcoll; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biofilm; Microplastics; Suspended solids; Aquatic toxicology; Daphnia magna; Ecotoxicology; Bacterial colonization; Particle aggregation; Microbiome interaction; Standardization; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Microorganisms are ubiquitous and present in animal microbiomes, particulates, and colonizable surfaces of test systems. From an ecotoxicological perspective, they are metabolically active biological compartments that respond to test conditions, including test substances. READ MORE

  2. 12. Microplastics in the aquatic environment: Insights into biological fate and effects in fish

    Author : Giedrė Ašmonaitė; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microplastics; nanoplastics; plastic pollution; effects; fish; chemical mixtures; ecotoxicology;

    Abstract : According to the United Nations, plastic pollution in the natural environment has been identified as one of the biggest environmental challenges of this century and has become a cause for an emerging international concern. It has been predicted that up to 12 million tons of plastic waste reach the aquatic environment annually. READ MORE

  3. 13. Responses to reduced industrial metal emissions : An ecotoxicological study on Pied Flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca, Aves)

    Author : Åsa Berglund; Erik Nyholm; John Elliott; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Other biology; Övrig biologi; ekotoxikologi; Ecotoxicology; zooekologi; Animal Ecology; environmental science; miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Metals have been used by humans for thousands of years, and this has resulted in increased concentrations in the biosphere. The environment around point-sources, such as mines and smelters, are of particular concern, as metals may accumulate to high concentrations, and potentially reach levels toxic to the local flora and fauna. 4. 14. Effects of mixtures of endocrine disrupting chemicals – Thyroid disruption and behavioural effects in fish models

    Author : Lina Birgersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; endocrine disrupting chemicals; ecotoxicology; zebrafish; perch; locomotion; behaviour; thyroid disruption; EDC mixtures;

    Abstract : Wildlife and humans are continuously exposed to thousands of man-made compounds, including chemicals that are able to act as endocrine disruptors (EDCs). These pollutants are able to affect vital processes including brain development, reproduction, metabolism and growth. READ MORE

  5. 15. Neurotoxic Effects of Dichlorophenyl Methylsulphones Related to Olfactory Mucosal Lesions

    Author : Carina Carlsson; Ingvar Brandt; Hans Tjälve; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; olfcatory toxicity; olfactory bulb; aryl methylsulphone; neurotoxicity; QSAR; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; Ecotoxicology; Ekotoxikologi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the highly potent olfactory mucosa toxicant 2,6-dichlorophenyl methylsulphone (2,6-diClPh-MeSO2) and its non-toxic 2,5-chlorinated isomer (2,5-diClPh-MeSO2). In mice, both substances bind firmly in the olfactory mucosa and the olfactory bulb, which are important components of the sensory system. READ MORE
