  1. 1. Electroosmosis Based Treatment Approach for Cerebral Edema

    Author : Teng Wang; Xiaogai Li; Svein Kleiven; Tiit Illimar Mathiesen; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cerebral edema; electroosmosis based treatment; finite element head model; electroosmotic flow; Teknik och hälsa; Technology and Health;

    Abstract : Cerebral edema characterized as an abnormal accumulation of excess fluid in the intracellular or extracellular spaces has not been treated effectively despite aggressive treatments. As a result, cerebral edema often leads to intracranial pressure (ICP) elevation with potentially severe consequences unless treated effectively. READ MORE

  2. 2. New methodological approaches in studies on experimental brain edema : a Persoll density gradient for measurement of edema, spread of edema components in axons and DSP-4 as a tool in brain edema research

    Author : Christer Tengvar; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : .... READ MORE

  3. 3. Anti-VEGF treatment of patients with diabetic macular edema : Studies of visual acuity, macular edema and patient-reported outcomes

    Author : Therese Granström; Janeth Leksell; Henrietta Forsman; Elisabet Granstam; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hälsa och välfärd; Health and Welfare;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to describe and evaluate visual acuity, macular edema and patientreported outcomes (PRO) following anti-VEGF treatment of diabetic macular edema (DME) patients in a real-world setting. Using a longitudinal study design, a cohort of DME patients was followed from baseline to 1 year after treatment start. READ MORE

  4. 4. The effect of mechanical ventilation on abdominal organs : Analysing the role of PEEP and perfusion

    Author : Silvia Marchesi; Miklós Lipcsey; Anders Larsson; Göran Hedenstierna; Torbjörn Karlsson; Anders Oldner; Ragnvi Hagman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ARDS; sepsis; abdominal inflammation; edema; perfusion; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Abstract : Background: The effect of mechanical ventilation on abdominal organs is not well understood and investigated yet. Previous studies, using an animal sepsis-like model, found an association between mechanical ventilation (MV) and abdominal edema and inflammation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy

    Author : Hari Shanker Sharma; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; blood-brain barrier; heat stress; hyperthermia; brain edema; serotonin; nitric oxide; carbon monoxide; heat shock protein; glial fibrillary acidic protein; myelin basic protein; opioids; histamine; catecholamines; naloxone; indomethacin; p-CPA; electron microscopy; immunocytochemistry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Human Anatomy; anatomi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury.
