  1. 1. Edge states and transition to turbulence in boundary layers

    Author : Taras Khapko; Dan Henningson; Philipp Schlatter; Yohann Duguet; Rich Kerswell; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boundary layer; transition to turbulence; direct numerical simulation; edge state; free-stream turbulence; bypass transition; probabilistic cellular automaton; turbulence at the onset; laminar–turbulent coexistence; laminarisation; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis is the numerical study of subcritical transition to turbulence in boundary-layer flows. For the most part, boundary layers with uniform suction are considered. Constant homogeneous suction counteracts the spatial growth of the boundary layer, rendering the flow parallel. READ MORE

  2. 2. Laser Sheet Imaging and Image Analysis for Combustion Research

    Author : Rafeef Abu-Gharbieh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; non-linear diffusion filtering; optically dense sprays; curve evolution propagation; image sequence analysis; laser induced fluorescence; geodesic paths; level sets; LIF; optical density; spray characterization; flame propagation; laser; particle image velocimetry; spectroscopy; combustion engines; spray diagnostics; Mie scattering; flame fronts; laser attenuation; tracking; combustion diagnostics; curve matching; combustion; laser sheet imaging; PIV; time resolved imaging; segmentation;

    Abstract : This Thesis presents techniques that aim at exploiting the potential of image analysis and processing in order to solve problems of data reduction, interpolation, quantification, and interpretation within the field of experimental laser imaging of combustion processes. Combustion is the most important source of energy for power generation, heating, and transportation in the world today and its strong dominance is projected to continue in the foreseeable future. 4. 4. Tracking of Animals Using Airborne Cameras

    Author : Clas Veibäck; Gustaf Hendeby; Fredrik Gustafsson; Kalle Åström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The various elements of a modern target tracking framework are covered. Background theory on pre-processing, modelling and estimation is presented as well as some novel ideas on the topic by the author. In addition, a few applications are posed as target tracking problems for which solutions are gradually constructed as relevant theory is covered. READ MORE

  5. 5. Tracking mathematical giftedness in an egalitarian context

    Author : Linda Mattsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mathematics; giftedness; creativity; identification; characterization; gifted education; gifted education;

    Abstract : In three different studies upper secondary school head teachers’ characterization and identification of mathematical giftedness was investigated. A survey study (Paper II) explored the conceptions held by 36 randomly selected upper secondary school head teachers in mathematics. READ MORE
