  1. 1. The Influence of Hydrogen on the Radiolytic Oxidation of UO2

    Author : Niklas Hansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; XPS; Dose-Rate; Radiolytic Oxidation; UO2; MOX; Hydrogen Effect;

    Abstract : Spent nuclear fuel from the nuclear fuel cycle contains radiotoxic nuclides which must be safely stored for over 100 000 years. The Swedish final repository concept, KBS-3, is based on engineered and geological barriers that prevent the nuclear fuel from coming in contact with groundwater, which is the most credible vector to transport the radionuclides into the biosphere. 2. 2. Characterisation of an in vitro dissolution method for assessment of novel pulmonary drug delivery systems : With a focus on controlled release systems

    Author : Irès van der Zwaan; Göran Frenning; Per Hansson; Rebecca Fransson; Alessandra Rossi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pulmonary drug delivery; in vitro dissolution; mechanistic model; controlled release; physiologically based biopharmaceutics modelling;

    Abstract : Pulmonary drug delivery has been used for decades to treat local diseases like asthma. When using the pulmonary route to deliver drugs, several important lung features are being used, such as a large surface area available for absorption, high organ vascularization, and a thin blood-alveolar barrier. 3. 3. The effect of solid state inclusions on the reactivity of UO2 : A kinetic and mechanistic study

    Author : Martin Trummer; Mats Jonsson; Lara Duro; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear chemistry; Kärnkemi;

    Abstract : The release of radionuclides is a key process in the safety assessment of a deep geological repository for spent nuclear fuel. A large fraction of the release is assumed to be a consequence of dissolution of the fuel matrix, UO2. In this doctoral thesis, the kinetics and the mechanisms behind oxidative U(IV) dissolution were studied. READ MORE

  4. 4. Microgels as drug delivery vehicles : loading and release of amphiphilic drugs

    Author : Yassir Al-Tikriti; Per Hansson; Magnus Bergström; Matthew Libera; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; microgel; amphiphilic drug; phase separation; micropipette; Raman microscopy; controlled release; drug delivery; SAXS; Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry; Farmaceutisk fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Polyelectrolyte microgels are used as delivery vehicles for amphiphilic drugs in, e.g., treatments of liver cancer by a method called trans-arterial chemoembolization. READ MORE

  5. 5. Identification and Variation of some Functionality Related Characteristics of Pharmaceutically Relevant Solid Materials and their Effect on Product Performance

    Author : Frauke Fichtner; Göran Alderborn; Åke Rasmuson; Peter Kleinebudde; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmaceutics; Particle size distribution; Degree of agglomeration; Amorphous lactose; Matrix agglomerates; Drug release; Compactability; Tablet tensile strength; Particle fracture strength; Surfactant; Compression; Galenisk farmaci;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to identify some functionality related characteristics of pharmaceutically relevant solid materials and to study the effect of their variation on processing behaviour and product performance. For this purpose, particles with different characteristics were prepared under a variety of conditions by crystal agglomeration, wet granulation and spray drying. READ MORE
