  1. 1. Cognitive training in young and old adults : Transfer, long-term effects, and predictors of gain

    Author : Petra Sandberg; Anna Stigsdotter Neeyl; Michael Rönnlund; Boo Johansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cognitive training; aging; old adults; executive function; life-span; individual differences; episodic memory; inhibition; shifting; updating; cognitive control; strategy training; mnemonics; predictors; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : Aging, also in the absence of pathological conditions, is associated with cognitivedecline, especially in so called fluid abilities, such as episodic memory andexecutive functions. Due to an ongoing demographic shift, a larger part of thepopulation will reach higher ages, and more people will be affected by age-relatedcognitive decline. READ MORE

  2. 2. Future Technology Support of Command and Control : Assessing the impact of assumed future technologies on cooperative command and control

    Author : Mats Persson; Else Nygren; Tim Grant; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : In response to technological advances, especially in the field of information and communication technology (ICT), the so called revolution in military affairs (RMA) and later the concept of network-centric warfare (NCW) emerged as a theory to further utilize technology for military command and control (C2). Advocates of the Swedish ROLF 2010-vision and the concept of NCW have made claims and assumptions that future technology will improve mission effectiveness by, for example, increasing the understanding of a current situation and its development, the speed of command, and providing means to utilize more efficient forms of organizations. 3. 3. Impact of different interventions on cardiovascular risk factors

    Author : Marta Vergara; Fredrik Nyström; Carl Johan Östgren; Anna Krook; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Resistance training; Protein; Fast-food; Blueberries; Exercise; Glucose; Running; Cholesterol; Troponin T; Insulin sensitivity; Brown adipose tissue; Basal methabolic rate; Cold exposure; Quality of life; Primary health care; Diabetes mellitus type 2; MACE; Prospective studies; Risk factors; Cardiovascular diseases;

    Abstract : Obesity and related complications such as diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM) and cardiovascular events, are a growing major health problem worldwide. Achieving a negative energy balance by increasing physical activity in combination with reduced caloric intake, is the most common approach in weight reduction strategies, something that is difficult to maintain in the long term. 4. 4. Simulation of diffusional processes in alloys : techniques and applications

    Author : Henrik Strandlund; John Ågren; John Morral; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diffusion; Kirkendall effect; Phase transformations; Random walk; Solute drag; Interfacial mobility; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns computer simulation of diffusional processes in alloys. The main focus is on the development of simulation techniques for diffusion in single-phase domains, but also diffusion controlled phase-transformations and interfacial processes are discussed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effects of physical training on physical performance in frail elderly people

    Author : Elisabeth Rydwik; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Aging is often accompanied by decreased muscle strength, aerobic capacity and balance, which can lead to impaired physical performance. Epidemiological data have demonstrated that low levels of physical activity are strongly related to functional decline. READ MORE
