1. Accurate description of heterogeneous tumors for biologically optimized radiation therapy
Abstract : In this thesis, a model of tissue oxygenation is presented, that takes into account the heterogeneous nature of tumor vasculature. Even though the model is rather simple, the resulting oxygen distributions agree very well with clinically observed oxygen distributions for most tumors and healthy normal tissues. READ MORE

2. Short and long-term effects of exposure to low dose and low dose rate of gamma radiation : using in vitro and in vivo models
Abstract : Assessment of human health risks from exposure to ionizing radiation (IR) is mainly based on the extrapolation of results from epidemiological studies on populations exposed to relatively high doses and often at high dose rates (HDR). Risk estimates after exposure to low doses and in particular at low dose rates (LDR) remain controversial due to a lack of epidemiological evidence. READ MORE

3. Characterization of interface states & radiation damage effects in duo-lateral PSDs : Using SEM microscopy and UV beam profiling techniques
Abstract : There has been an increase in the use of duo‐lateral position sensitive detectors inpractically every radiation and beam detection application. These devices unlike other light detection system utilize the effect of the lateral division of the generated photocurrent to measure the position of the integral focus of an incoming lightsignal. 4. Schottky Contacs on Silicon Nanowires
Abstract : This thesis demonstrates the effect of charge on Schottky barrier height for metal contacts at the end surfaces of silicon nanowires. It is shown, by measurements and analytical models, how the effective electron barrier is lowered by a positive charge introduced into an oxide embedding the wire. READ MORE

5. Different approaches to develop radio- and chemotherapy for treatment of human cancer
Abstract : Despite huge advancements in our knowledge and understanding of the molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis, the prognoses of many malignant diseases have not improved dramatically. Improvements in the therapeutic efficacy of several anti-cancer therapies including radiotherapy and chemotherapy would be required to achieve effective treatment. READ MORE
