  1. 1. Autonomic cardiac control in long QT syndrome : clinical studies of arrhythmogenic triggers

    Author : Anna Lundström; Annika Rydberg; Urban Wiklund; Håkan Eliasson; Jacob Tfelt-Hansen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Long QT syndrome; pediatrics; exercise; Holter; water immersion; arrhythmia; clinical physiology; ECG; heart rate variability; heart rate response; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning; kardiologi; Cardiology; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Abstract : Background: Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is an inherited cardiac disease characterized by prolonged cardiac repolarization and an increased risk for life-threatening arrhythmias. These arrhythmias are typically triggered by adrenergic stimuli, such as physical activity and intense emotions, implicating that the sympathetic part of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is involved in arrhythmogenesis. 2. 2. Short and long-term effects of exposure to low dose and low dose rate of gamma radiation : using in vitro and in vivo models

    Author : Traimate Sangsuwan; Siamak Haghdoost; Eva Forssell-Aronsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Low dose; Low dose rate; High dose rate; Ionizing radiation; Adaptive response; Senescence; Premature senescence; Oxidative stress; Drosophila embryo; Mutation; DNA repair; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Assessment of human health risks from exposure to ionizing radiation (IR) is mainly based on the extrapolation of results from epidemiological studies on populations exposed to relatively high doses and often at high dose rates (HDR). Risk estimates after exposure to low doses and in particular at low dose rates (LDR) remain controversial due to a lack of epidemiological evidence. READ MORE

  3. 3. Post-Detonation Afterburning of High Explosives

    Author : Katja Fedina; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : Explosives; Combustion; LES; Finite rate chemistry; Explosives; Combustion; LES; Finite rate chemistry; Height of Burst;

    Abstract : High performance of an explosive compound with respect to afterburning requires sufficient combustible properties of the explosive, and a careful determination of the most appropriate charge positioning to achieve the desired afterburning effect. Understanding the physical processes of post-detonation afterburning and how these are affected by the surroundings, e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Care of the newborn in Uganda : studies of the use of simple affordable effective interventions

    Author : Romano Nkumbwa Byaruhanga; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Neonatal mortality; newborn; hypothermia; skin to skin; Uganda;

    Abstract : Background: There are evidence based cost effective interventions available, which could decrease neonatal mortality, if scaled up and delivered under ideal conditions. Aim: To determine the causes of perinatal deaths, risk factors for neonatal hypothermia and explore the acceptability and feasibility of recommended perinatal practices in hospital and community settings in Uganda. 5. 5. Performance of MCrAlX coatings : Oxidation, Hot corrosion and Interdiffusion

    Author : Pimin Zhang; Ru Lin Peng; Xin-Hai Li; Sten Johansson; Ping Xiao; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : MCrAlY coatings (M=Ni and/or Co) are widely used for the protection of superalloy components against oxidation and hot corrosion in the hot sections of gas turbines. The drive for coating systems to bestow adequate oxidation and corrosion resistance upon the components becomes urgent as an inevitable result of the necessary improvement in engine combustion efficiency and service lifetime.
