  1. 1. Effects of vibration on muscles in the neck and upper limbs : with focus on occupational terrain vehicle drivers

    Author : Charlotte Åström; Gunnevi Sundelin; Lage Burström; Stefan Karlsson; Karin Harms-Ringdahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Electromyography; drivers; hand-arm vibration; trapezius; whole-body vibration; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi;

    Abstract : Introduction: Occupational drivers of terrain vehicles are exposed to several risk factors associated with musculoskeletal symptoms in the lower back as well as in the neck and upper limbs. Vibration has been suggested to be a main risk factor. These drivers are exposed to both whole-body vibration (WBV) and hand-arm vibration (HAV). READ MORE

  2. 2. On Evaluation and Modelling of Human Exposure to Vibration and Shock on Planing High-Speed Craft

    Author : Katrin Olausson; Karl Garme; Jakob Kuttenkeuler; Dominic J. Taunton; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; whole-body vibration; high-speed craft; working conditions; seat modelling; apparent mass; ergonomics; human factors; ISO 2631-1; ISO 2631-5; extreme values; acceleration statistics; slamming;

    Abstract : High speed in waves, necessary in for instance rescue or military operations, often result in severe loading on both the craft and the crew. To maximize the performance of the high-speed craft (HSC) system that the craft and crew constitute, balance between these loads is essential. READ MORE

  3. 3. On neck load among helicopter pilots : effects of head worn equipment, whole body vibration and neck position

    Author : Marcus Thuresson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Biomechanics; cervical spine; electromyography; head-worn equipment; helicopter pilots; laboratory; male; mechanical load; neck load; night vision goggles; rotary wing pilots; statistics; transmissibility; whole body vibration.;

    Abstract : Introduction: Helicopter pilots complain of pain originating from the neck region. The causes are still basically unknown, but the ergonomic situation when flying a helicopter, with unfavorable load caused by static neck and body positions, whole-body vibration and heavy head-worn equipment, has been suggested as a risk factor. 4. 4. On Evaluation of Working Conditions aboard High-Performance Marine Craft

    Author : Pahansen de Alwis; Karl Garme; Anders Rosén; Joakim Dahlman; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high-speed marine craft; human factors integration; whole-body vibration; epidemiology; musculoskeletal pain; fatigue; höghastighetsfartyg; human factors; HFI; helkroppsvibrationer; epidemiologi; muskuloskeletal smärta; utmattning; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : High-Performance Marine Craft (HPMC) is a complex system confronted by the stochastic nature of the waves challenging the safety of life at sea. The personnel aboard these craft are vulnerable to detrimental conditions, in fact, limiting the system’s performance evoking the significance of the Human Factors Integration (HFI) in the design and operation of these craft. 5. 5. Vibration discomfort due to multi-axis excitation

    Author : Andi Rahadiyan Wijaya; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teknisk akustik; Engineering Acoustics;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis focuses on vibration discomfort due to multi-axis excitation. It is based on three studies; the first two studies were conducted in a laboratory environment using motion platform and utilizing sinusoidal signals, and the last study was a field study that utilized a fork lift truck on an artificial test track with built in obstacles that allowed controlled transient vibration excitation.
