  2. 2. Studies to Avoid Decreased Efficiency in Multiple Stage Biological Wastewater Treatment Plants: Concerning Forests Industry Effluents

    Author : Maria Sandberg; Ola Holby; Erik Särner; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wastewater treatment; Forest industry; Black liquor; MultiBio; Toxic effluents; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : Målet med den här studien är att förhindra effektivitetssänkningar i moderna biologiska reningsanläggningar för skogsindustriella avloppsvatten. Biologiska processer är vanligtvis effektiva när det gäller att reducera lättnedbrytbart organiskt material. Eftersom den utgörs av levande mikroorganismer (MO) är tekniken känslig. READ MORE

  3. 3. Nitrogen effluents from mine sites in northern Sweden : nitrogen transformations and limiting nutrient in receiving waters

    Author : Sara Chlot; Anders Lundkvist; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : Process water discharged from mine sites may contain elevated concentrations of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), which both are nutrients for algae and aquatic plants. Thus, discharge of nutrient rich mine water can result in algal blooms, eutrophication, oxygen deficiency and changed species composition in the receiving waters. READ MORE

  4. 4. Emissions from Fires Consequences for Human Safety and the Environment

    Author : Per Blomqvist; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; kontroll av utsläpp; pollution control; Miljöteknik; Environmental technology; Byggnadsteknik; Building construction; incapacitation; CFD; simulations; emissions; particles; dioxin; PAH; gases; quantitative analysis; fire effluents; chemical characterisation; large-scale experiments;

    Abstract : Accidental fires represent a risk for people from the heat and fire effluents produced. It is clear from fire statistics that it is, in fact, the toxic gases that kill and injure many fire victims. Further, there are a number of compounds that are readily produced in fires, which have important sublethal effects on humans. READ MORE

  5. 5. Genetic Aspects of Environmental Disturbances in Marine Ecosystems : Studies of the Blue Mussel in the Baltic Sea

    Author : Josefine Larsson; Mats Grahn; Inger Porsch-Hällström; Katarzyna Smolarz; Andrew Whitehead; Södertörns högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Blue mussel; Baltic Sea; anthropogenic disturbance; pollution; sewage effluents; harbors; genetics; genomics; Environmental Studies; Miljövetenskapliga studier; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Abstract : Anthropogenic environmental changes can serve as drivers for evolutionary responses in wild populations. To predict the long-term impact of anthropogenic changes on populations, it is crucial to understand the genetic effects caused by these disturbances. READ MORE
