  1. 16. Eicosanoids and exosomes : a link between macrophages and lung cancer

    Author : Ana Lukic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Chronic inflammation increases the risk of lung cancer. Macrophages (MO) are important players in inflammation, with regulatory and executive functions. Eicosanoids and exosomes can be both triggers and mediators of these functions. READ MORE

  2. 17. Structural biology of integral membrane proteins - From methods to molecular mechanisms

    Author : Damian Niegowski; Pär Nordlund; Richard Neutze; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; membrane proteins; CorA; magnesium transport; screening; Leukotriene C4 synthase; detergents; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Membrane proteins are vital components in the cell and crucial for the proliferation of all living organisms. Unfortunately our collective knowledge of structures of membrane proteins is very limited, as compared to the information available on soluble proteins. READ MORE

  3. 18. Leukotriene C4 synthase : studies on oligomerization and subcellular localization

    Author : Jesper Svartz; Mats Söderström; Sven Hammarström; Colin Funk; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Leukotrienes (LTs) are polyunsaturated fatty acid derivatives formed by oxygenation of arachidonic acid via the 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) pathway. Upon activation of inflammatory cells 5-LO is translocated to the nuclear envelope where it converts arachidonic acid to the unstable epoxide LTA4. READ MORE

  4. 19. Studies on expression and regulation of phospholipase A2 and cyclooxygenase 2 in gastrointestinal tissues with special reference to colorectal cancer

    Author : Jan Dimberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The phospholipases A2 (PLA2s) are phospholipid hydrolyzing enzymes that in mammalian cells exist in several different isoform including cytosolic PLA2 (cPLA2), group I PLA2 (PLA2-I) and group II PLA2 (PLA2-ll). PLA2 is involved in production of inflammatory mediators, membrane remodelling, digestive functions and stimulation of prolifemtion. READ MORE

  5. 20. Novel aspects of P-amionbenzoic acid metabolism in connection with arachidonic acid oxidation in human lymphoid cells and platelets

    Author : Bruno Barbieri; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The arachidonic acid metabolites - in particular the prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes - have diverse and potent pharmacological effects and may also prove physiologically and pathologically significant. In long term incubation of human peripheral blood mononuclear leukocytes (PBML) in RPMI 1640 with fetal calf serum and [1-14C] arachidonic acid (AA) besides small amounts of some of these known metabolites a radioactive substance with chromatographical behaviour like no known eicosanoid was identified.
