21. Electrochemically etched pore arrays in silicon for X-ray imaging detectors
Abstract : Digital devices have now been introduced in many X-ray imaging applications, replacing slowly traditional photographic films. These devices are preferred as they offer real time imaging, easy handling and fast treatment of the images. READ MORE

22. Pool Boiling on Structured Surfaces: Heat Transfer and Critical Heat Flux : Experiments and Mechanistic Modelling
Abstract : In this thesis, pool boiling heat transfer was experimentally studied on structured surfaces with dielectric liquids (HFE-7200, NOVEC-649, FC-72), organic liquids (Acetone, Pentane) and deionized water. In the first step, nanoparticle coatings on copper surfaces were prepared by an electrophoretic deposition method, with Cu-Zn nanoparticles (100 nm) and Cu nanoparticles (150 nm). 23. Silicon Nanowires for Biomolecule Detection
Abstract : Starting from silicon on insulator (SOI) material, with a top silicon layer thickness of 100 nm, silicon nanowires were fabricated in a top down approach using electron beam (e-beam) lithography and subsequent eactive ion etching (RIE) and oxidation. Nanowires as narrow as 30 nm could be achieved. READ MORE

24. The influence of Al alloy microstructure on conversion coating formation
Abstract : The formation of conversion coatings based on Ce, trivalent Cr and Ti/Zr is triggered by the local pH increase at cathodic IM sites of the aluminium alloy microstructure. The pH gradient is created over the cathodic intermetallic (IM) sites of the microstructure and its intensity is influenced by their activity which depends on their chemical composition, their size, and spatial distribution. 25. Silicon neural interfaces -Design and biomedical aspects-
Abstract : This thesis covers the development of a silicon neural interface, with focus on silicon sieve electrode fabrication, design, nerve regeneration, signal recording and biocompatibility. A study of how the via hole size and transparency of the perforated sieve membrane influences the nerve regeneration is presented together with a study on soft tissue responses to planar and porous silicon.
