1. Optical Characterization and Optimization of Display Components : Some Applications to Liquid-Crystal-Based and Electrochromics-Based Devices
Abstract : This dissertation is focused on theoretical and experimental studies of optical properties of materials and multilayer structures composing liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and electrochromic (EC) devices. By applying spectroscopic ellipsometry, we have determined the optical constants of thin films of electrochromic tungsten oxide (WOx) and nickel oxide (NiOy), the films’ thickness and roughness. 2. Electrochromism in Metal Oxide Thin Films : Towards long-term durability and materials rejuvenation
Abstract : Electrochromic thin films can effectively regulate the visible and infrared light passing through a window, demonstrating great potential to save energy and offer a comfortable indoor environment in buildings. However, long-term durability is a big issue and the physics behind this is far from clear. READ MORE

3. WO3 for reflective displays in color
Abstract : Reflective displays, also known as electronic paper, are very attractive due to their low power consumption and great visibility under bright ambient light conditions. However, reflective displays in color are still limited on the market for two main reasons. READ MORE

4. Electrochromic Nickel – Tungsten Oxides : Optical, Electrochemical and Structural Characterization of Sputter-deposited Thin Films in the Whole Composition Range
Abstract : This thesis investigates the electrochromic NixW1-x oxide thin film system, where 0 < x < 1. The thin films were deposited by reactive DC magnetron co-sputtering from one Ni and one W metal target. In addition, Ni oxide was deposited with water vapor added to the sputtering gas. READ MORE

5. Electronic and Structural Properties of Thin Films of Phthalocyanines and Titanium Dioxide
Abstract : This thesis is based on experimental studies in chemical physics. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) and phthalocyanine’s (Pc’s), interesting in many future perspectives, have been deposited as thin films and studied as follows. Information has been obtained on e.g. READ MORE
