  1. 1. Non-metallic inclusions in pipeline steels and their effect on the corrosion resistance

    Author : Elena Sidorova; Andrey Karasev; Pär Jönsson; Lauri Holappa; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pipeline steels; Ca-treatment; non-metallic inclusions; electrolytic extraction; corrosion; chemical extraction; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract :  This thesis focus on investigations of the influence of non-metallic inclusions on corrosion in steel samples taken at different stages of the steel production when producing pipeline steels. The electrolytic extraction technique was used to extract inclusions from these steel samples and thereafter studying them using scanning electron microscopy in combination with energy dispersive microscopy. 2. 2. A Study of Different Methods for Inclusion Characterization towards On-line use during Steelmaking

    Author : Diana Janis; Pär Jönsson; Lauri Holappa; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; on-line method; PDA OES; electrolytic extraction; inclusions; clusters; nozzle clogging; secondary steelmaking;

    Abstract : The interest of gaining on-line information related to non-metallic inclusions during the steelmaking process has recently increased due to the development as well as the promising results of the Pulse Distribution Analysis with Optical Emission Spectroscopy method (PDA/OES). Even though, the time from sampling to presented results on inclusions is only about 5-10 minutes, the method has also shown limitations with respect to the determination of some inclusion characteristics. 3. 3. Control of Alloy Composition and Evaluation of Macro Inclusions during Alloy Making

    Author : Yuichi Kanbe; Du Sichen; Leiv Kolbeinsen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; slag metal reaction; equilibrium; kinetics; largest inclusion; statistics of extreme values; electrolytic extraction; cross section; inclusion morphology; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : In order to obtain a good performance and predict the properties of alloys, it is necessary to control the contents of alloying elements and to evaluate a largest inclusion in the product. Thus, improved techniques for both control of alloy elements and evaluation of the large inclusion in products will enable us to provide better qualities of the final products. READ MORE

  4. 4. Study of Non-metallic Inclusion in Alloy 825

    Author : Hans Kellner; Andrey Karasev; Pär Jönsson; Guozhu Ye; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Alloy 825; FeTi70R alloy; non-metallic inclusions; inclusion distribution; clusters; electromagnetic and gas stirring; ladle treatment; electrolytic extraction; stirring directions; Alloy 825; FeTi70R legering; icke-metalliska inneslutningar; inneslutnings fördelning; kluster; elektromagnetisk och gas omrörning; skänkugnsbehandling; elektrolytisk extraktion; omrörningshåll; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap; Steel Forming and Surface Engineering;

    Abstract : It is well known that inclusions affect the properties of steels and alloys. Therefore, it is important to understand what type of inclusions that exist and how they behave and especially with a focus on large size inclusions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Characterization of Impurities in Different Ferroalloys and Their Effects on the Inclusion Characteristics of Steels

    Author : Yong Wang; Pär Jönsson; Andrey Karasev; Bart Blanpain; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ferroalloys; electrolytic extraction; metal surface; non-metallic inclusions; steel cleanliness; computational thermodynamics; ferrolegering; elektrolytisk extraktion; metallyta; icke-metalliska inneslutningar; stålrenhet; beräkningstermodynamik; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract :      Ferroalloys have become increasingly important due to their indispensable role in steelmaking. As the performance requirements of steel materials increase, it is necessary to have a better understanding of the impact of impurities in ferroalloys on the steel cleanliness. READ MORE
