  1. 11. An ultra-thin-walled superconducting solenoid for meson-decay physics

    Author : Roger Ruber; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiation sciences; Strålningsvetenskap; Radiation biology; Strålningsbiologi; radiologi; Radiology;

    Abstract : A compact and extremely thin-walled superconducting warm-bore solenoid magnet, has been developed for the WASA detector setup at the CELSIUS accelerator and storage ring of the The Svedberg Laboratory. It provides a central axial magnetic field strength of 1. READ MORE

    Author : Inken Koch; Sven Kullander; Alfons Khoukaz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiation sciences; two pion; three pion; production; WASA; Celsius; cross section; calorimeter; CsI crystals; kinematical distribution; Strålningsvetenskap; Radiation biology; Strålningsbiologi;

    Abstract : Neutral two- and three-pion productions in proton-proton collisions at a center of mass energy of 2.465 GeV have been studied using the WASA detector and an internal pellet target at the CELSIUS storage ring in Uppsala. READ MORE

  3. 13. Characterization of the MRI patient exposure environment and exposure assessment methods for magnetic fields in MRI scanners

    Author : Jennifer Frankel; Jonna Wilén; Anders Garpebring; Johan Olsrud; Peter Lundberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electromagnetic fields; exposure assessment; magnetic resonance imaging; switched gradient fields; radiofrequency fields; exposure metrics; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Abstract : Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become one of the most common imaging modalities available in modern medicine, and it is an indispensable diagnostic tool thanks to the unparalleled soft-tissue contrast and high image resolution. It is also a unique exposure environment consisting of a complex mix of magnetic fields. READ MORE

  4. 14. Pair production, vacuum birefringence and radiation reaction in strong field QED

    Author : Greger Torgrimsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; worldline instantons; lightfront quantisation; radiation reaction; vacuum birefringence; nonperturbative pair production;

    Abstract : In this thesis we consider three QED phenomena in strong electromagnetic fields: Schwinger pair production, vacuum birefringence and radiation reaction. We study electron-positron pair production in a variety of field configurations and, using complex worldline instantons, reveal new insights into the case of fields with lightlike inhomogeneities. 5. 15. Nonlinear interaction and propagation of gravitational and electromagnetic waves in plasmas

    Author : Martin Servin; Gert Brodin; Lennart Stenflo; Demetrios Papadopoulos; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical physics; general relativity; plasma; gravitational waves; electromagnetic waves; nonlinear; wave interaction; wave propagation; Teoretisk fysik; Physics; Fysik; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : Gravitational waves and electromagnetic waves are important as carriers of energy and information. This thesis is devoted to the study of the propagation and interaction of these waves in plasmas, with emphasis on nonlinear effects and applications within astrophysics. READ MORE
