  1. 1. Directly exposed electron-detectors for electron energy-loss spectroscopy

    Author : Claes Orsholm; Tomas Lindblad; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the possibilities of using planar silicon-devices such as the photodiode array and the charge-coupled device (CCD) as directly exposed electron-detectors for electron energy-loss spectroscopy. The aim is to achieve an acceptable performance at low signal intensities, enabling single electron detection. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modeling Vibrational Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy with the Frequency-Resolved Frozen Phonon Multislice Method

    Author : Paul Michel Zeiger; Jan Rusz; Rebecca Nicholls; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy; Phonons; Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy; Frozen Phonon Multislice; Molecular Dynamics; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : Aberration correctors, improved monochromators, and better detectors have enabled exciting research with nanometer- and Ångstrom-scale resolution in the Scanning Transmission Electron Microscope (STEM). However the interaction of high-energy electrons with the many-body system of the sample is quite complex and hinders interpretation of experiments. READ MORE

  3. 3. Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy of III-Nitride Semiconductors

    Author : Justinas Palisaitis; Per Persson; Lars Hultman; Jens Birch; Ernesto Coronel; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : This Licentiate Thesis covers experimental and theoretical investigations of the bulk plasmon response to different compositions and strain states of group III-nitride materials. Investigated materials were grown using magnetron sputtering epitaxy and metal organic chemical vapour deposition and studied by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS). 4. 4. Valence Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy of III-Nitride Semiconductors

    Author : Justinas Pališaitis; Per Persson; Lars Hultman; Jens Birch; Vicki Keast; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This doctorate thesis covers both experimental and theoretical investigations of the optical responses of the group III-nitrides (AlN, GaN, InN) and their ternary alloys. The goal of this research has been to explore the usefulness of valence electron energy loss spectroscopy (VEELS) for materials characterization of group III-nitride semiconductors at the nanoscale. Abstract : During recent years, new types of materials have been discovered with unique properties. One family of such materials are two-dimensional materials, which include graphene and MXene. These materials are stronger, more flexible, and have higher conductivity than other materials. As such they are highly interesting for new applications, e. READ MORE
