  1. 16. Multipoles in Correlated Electron Materials

    Author : Francesco Cricchio; Lars Nordström; Peter Oppeneer; Igor Solovyev; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; correlated electrons; magnetic ordering; multipoles; actinides; hidden order; high temperature superconductors; Fe pnictides; electronic structure calculations; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik; Superconductivity; Supraledning; Electronic structure; Elektronstruktur; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : Electronic structure calculations constitute a valuable tool to predict the properties of materials. In this study we propose an efficient scheme to study correlated electron systems with essentially only one free parameter, the screening length of the Coulomb potential. READ MORE

  2. 17. Optical spectroscopy of InGaAs quantum dots

    Author : Arvid Larsson; Per Olof Holtz; Artur Zrenner; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum dot; semiconductor; optical properties; spin; transport; wetting layer; polarization; kvantprick; halvledare; optiska egenskaper; spin; Electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik; Semiconductor physics; Halvledarfysik;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis deals with optical studies of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) in the InGaAs material system. It is shown that for self-assembled InAs QDs, the interaction with the surrounding GaAs barrier and the InAs wetting layer (WL) in particular, has a very large impact on their optical properties. 3. 18. Hadron Physics in a Polarized World : Exploring Electromagnetic Interactions with Spin Observables

    Author : Viktor Thorén; Andrzej Kupsc; Karin Schönning; Magnus Wolke; David Ireland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hadron; Hyperon; Meson; Polarization; Spin observables; Electromagnetic interactions; BESIII; Fysik med inriktning mot kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : The electromagnetic interactions of hadrons serve as a valuable probe of the nature of the strong force at low energies and simultaneously allow for tests of fundamental discrete symmetries. In this thesis, I show how polarization observables can be used to gain an in-depth understanding of these processes and present two analyses of data from the BESIII experiment where such observables have been studied. 4. 19. A first-principles approach to protein–ligand interaction

    Author : Pär Söderhjelm; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; solvation; exchange repulsion; polarizable force fields; polarization; molecular mechanics; quantum chemistry; intermolecular interactions; protein–ligand interaction;

    Abstract : It is still impossible to make an accurate, purely theoretical prediction of the free energy of a ligand binding to a protein in aqueous environment. The two main problems are the immense number of nuclear configurations contributing to the binding free energy and the impossibility to apply accurate quantum-chemical methods to such a large system, even for a single configuration. 5. 20. Surface characterization methods for quality assessment of polyethylene-coated paperboard

    Author : Javier Mauricio Brugés; Jan Lundgren; Mattias Andersson; Mikael Sjödahl; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; polarization; surface characterization; Stokes polarimeter; polyethylene coating; paperboard;

    Abstract : In manufacturing processes, the quality of a product often depends on its surface, and careful control of surface properties is critical to meet customer requirements. A thin layer of polyethylene (PE) is applied to paperboard to increase barrier functionality and high optical quality of the product. READ MORE
