  1. 11. Low Secondary Electron Yield Carbon Coatings for Electron Cloud Mitigation in Modern Particle Accelerators

    Author : Christina Yin Vallgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Raman spectroscopy; NRA; amorphous carbon; secondary electron yield; LIU; X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; SEY; AFM; electron cloud; SPS dipole magnet;

    Abstract : In order to upgrade the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) performance to be oriented towards higher energies and higher intensities in the future, a series of improvementsof the existing LHC injectors is planned to take place over the next few years. Electron cloud effects are expected to be enhanced and play a central role in limiting theperformance of the machines of the CERN complex. READ MORE

  2. 12. Tuning of Energy and Electron Transfer Rates in Donor-Bridge-Acceptor Systems

    Author : Karin Pettersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electron transfer; electronic coupling; paramagnetic species; superexchange; Donor-bridge-acceptor system; spectroscopy.; porphyrin; sequential electron transfer; Förster energy transfer; energy transfer;

    Abstract : The intramolecular processes of Donor-Bridge-Acceptor (D-B-A) systems have been investigated by spectroscopic methods. The systems consist of porphyrin donors and acceptors linked by oligo-p-phenyleneethynylene bridges. READ MORE

  3. 13. Surface Vibrational and Electron Spectroscopy - Experiments and first-principle calculations

    Author : Martin Andersson; Kemisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gränsskikt; anharmonicity; Ytkemi; Surface and boundary layery chemistry; adsorbates; metal surface; density functional theory; first-principle calculations; electron spectroscopy; reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy; vibrational spectroscpy;

    Abstract : This work deals with interpretation of experimental surface spectroscopic data with the aid of first-principle calculations. Surface infrared reflection-absorption spectra as well as spectra from the electron spectroscopic methods photoemission and X-ray absorption are considered. READ MORE

  4. 14. Optical Spectroscopy on Correlated Electron Materials

    Author : Johan Bielecki; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dynamics; optical spectroscopy; colossal magnetoresistance; magnetism; transition metal oxides; high temperature superconductivity;

    Abstract : Strongly correlated materials poses a great challenge to our microscopic understanding of matter, mainly due to the inability of perturbative methods to predict the properties of such materials. This inability stems from strong correlations between electronic, lattice and spin degrees of freedom, leading to a variety of complex and exotic phenomena such as (unconventional) superconductivity, metal-insulator transitions, non-Fermi liquid behavior and colossal magnetoresistance. 5. 15. Free Molecular and Metal Clusters Studied by Synchrotron Radiation Based Electron Spectroscopy

    Author : Aldana Rosso; Svante Svensson; Olle Björneholm; Maxim Tchaplyguine; Gunnar Öhrwall; Uwe Hergenhahn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanoparticles; free clusters; molecular clusters; metal clusters; photoelectron spectroscopy; synchrotron radiation; local structure; core level spectroscopy; auger spectroscopy; heterogeneous clusters; nucleation; bromomethane; chloromethane; benzene; bromobenzene; chlorobenzene; potassium; sodium; simple metals; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The main purpose of this Thesis is the experimental characterization of the electronic and geometric structures of objects called clusters. A cluster consists of a finite group of bound atoms or molecules. Due to its finite size, it may present completely different properties than those of the isolated atom and the bulk. READ MORE
