11. Low Secondary Electron Yield Carbon Coatings for Electron Cloud Mitigation in Modern Particle Accelerators
Abstract : In order to upgrade the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) performance to be oriented towards higher energies and higher intensities in the future, a series of improvementsof the existing LHC injectors is planned to take place over the next few years. Electron cloud effects are expected to be enhanced and play a central role in limiting theperformance of the machines of the CERN complex. READ MORE

12. Tuning of Energy and Electron Transfer Rates in Donor-Bridge-Acceptor Systems
Abstract : The intramolecular processes of Donor-Bridge-Acceptor (D-B-A) systems have been investigated by spectroscopic methods. The systems consist of porphyrin donors and acceptors linked by oligo-p-phenyleneethynylene bridges. READ MORE

13. Surface Vibrational and Electron Spectroscopy - Experiments and first-principle calculations
Abstract : This work deals with interpretation of experimental surface spectroscopic data with the aid of first-principle calculations. Surface infrared reflection-absorption spectra as well as spectra from the electron spectroscopic methods photoemission and X-ray absorption are considered. READ MORE

14. Optical Spectroscopy on Correlated Electron Materials
Abstract : Strongly correlated materials poses a great challenge to our microscopic understanding of matter, mainly due to the inability of perturbative methods to predict the properties of such materials. This inability stems from strong correlations between electronic, lattice and spin degrees of freedom, leading to a variety of complex and exotic phenomena such as (unconventional) superconductivity, metal-insulator transitions, non-Fermi liquid behavior and colossal magnetoresistance. 15. Free Molecular and Metal Clusters Studied by Synchrotron Radiation Based Electron Spectroscopy
Abstract : The main purpose of this Thesis is the experimental characterization of the electronic and geometric structures of objects called clusters. A cluster consists of a finite group of bound atoms or molecules. Due to its finite size, it may present completely different properties than those of the isolated atom and the bulk. READ MORE
