1. Probing Electron Collisions in Nanostructures
Abstract : This thesis studies the role of interaction between charged particles for transport and optical properties in nanostructures. Simulations are provided for a quantitative description of the system dynamics probed by either current spectroscopy or light absorption. READ MORE

2. On the role of the electron-electron interaction in two-dimensional quantum dots and rings
Abstract : Many-Body Perturbation Theory is put to test as a method for reliable calculations of the electron-electron interaction in two-dimensional quantum dots. We show that second order correlation gives qualitative agreement with experiments on a level which was not found within the Hartree-Fock description. READ MORE

3. Quantum electronic transport in low-dimensional semiconductors
Abstract : Electronic transport is studied at low temperatures in two-dimensional electron gases (2DEGs) and in mesoscopic semiconductor microstructures. The method of microwave-detection of the Shubnikov-de Haas effect for the contact-free characterisation of transport properties of 2DEGs is explored using both magnetic-field modulation and light-induced carrier modulation. 4. Interactions on the edge of a quantum spin Hall insulator
Abstract : Effects from electron-electron interactions on the edge of a quantum spin Hall insulator are studied using bosonisation and renormalisation group methods. First, a quantum spin Hall device with a point contact connecting two of its edges is considered. READ MORE

5. Interaction and disorder in helical conductors
Abstract : Different effects from electron-electron interactions and disorder in helical and quasi-helical conductors are studied using bosonisation and renormalisation group methods. The combined effects of Rashba spin-orbit interaction and magnetic Kondo-type impurities in the helical edge liquids of quantum spin Hall insulators, are investigated. READ MORE
