1. Electronic transitions and correlation effects : From pure elements to complex materials
Abstract : Macroscopic properties of real materials, such as conductivity, magneticproperties, crystal structure parameters, etc. are closely related or evendetermined by the configuration of their electrons, characterized by electronicstructure. By changing the conditions, e.g, pressure, temperature, magnetic/electric field, chemical doping, etc. READ MORE

2. Microsystem technology for microwave applications at frequencies above 100 GHz
Abstract : The rapid development of wireless technology today shows an increasing need forelectromagnetic components operating at even higher frequencies. Higher frequencies offer wider bandwidth, higher spatial resolution and are needed for technologies such as automotive car radars, wireless media communication and body scanners. READ MORE

3. A study of the stereochemistry and electronic transitions of cyclic and acyclic thioamides by crystallography, spectroscopy and computational methods
Abstract : Analysis of conformations and electron transitions of 3-(alkyl or aralkyl)-5-(methyl or phenyl)rhodanines with analogues and N,N'-bis[(S)-1-phenylethyl]-thiourea have been performed by X-ray crystallography, 1H NMR, molecular mechanics, ultraviolet spectroscopy and for the chiral rhodanines, enantiomer chromatography and circular dichroism spectroscopy. The magnitude of rotational barriers has been determined. READ MORE

4. Nanocalorimetry of electronic phase transitions in systems with unconventional superconductivity and magnetic ordering
Abstract : In this thesis, low temperature specific heat measurements on small (μg) single crystals of different superconducting and magnetic systems are presented. The device used in this work features a combination of high sensitivity and good accuracy over the temperature range 1-400 K and allows measurements in high magnetic fields. READ MORE

5. Electronic excitation, luminescence and particle emission : Studying ion-induced phenomena in ToF-MEIS
Abstract : Medium energy ion scattering (MEIS) is an experimental technique for the high-resolution depth profiling of thin films. Commonly, ions with energies between several ten to a few hundred keV are employed as probes, and backscattered particles are detected. READ MORE
