  1. 6. Towards a framework for enabling sustainable production systems: a life-cycle perspective

    Author : Ilaria Giovanna Barletta; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; energy efficiency; discrete event simulation; e-waste; KPI; triple bottom line; decision support; manufacturing; sustainability;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes to scientific knowledge by offering the foundation of a framework that helps stakeholders such as managers and engineers to enable sustainability over the entire lifecycle of the production system, from planning to re-use. In this thesis sustainability can be assessed through performance indicators and is understood through its triple bottom line of: economic, environmental and social sustainability. READ MORE

  2. 7. Towards recycling of scarce metals from complex products

    Author : Magnus Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; material flow analysis; Recycling; waste electrical and electronic equipment; scarce metal; end-of-life vehicle; WEEE; ELV; technological innovation system;

    Abstract : Cars and electronic equipment have come to depend on materially complex designs and are drawing attention to issues around sustainable materials management. The dependence of these products and other applications on metals that can be considered scarce, has been brought into political and scientific focus. READ MORE

  3. 8. Runtime Management of Multiprocessor Systems for Fault Tolerance, Energy Efficiency and Load Balancing

    Author : Stavros Tzilis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fault Tolerance; Algorithms; Runtime Management; Multiprocessors; Performance; Adaptive Systems; Load Balancing; Energy Efficiency;

    Abstract : Efficiency of modern multiprocessor systems is hurt by unpredictable events: aging causes permanent faults that disable components; application spawnings and terminations taking place at arbitrary times, affect energy proportionality, causing energy waste; load imbalances reduce resource utilization, penalizing performance. This thesis demonstrates how runtime management can mitigate the negative effects of unpredictable events, making decisions guided by a combination of static information known in advance and parameters that only become known at runtime. 4. 9. Making Sense of Extended Producer Responsibility: Towards a framework for policy transfer

    Author : Panate Manomaivibool; Internationella miljöinstitutet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Extended producer responsibility EPR ; Waste electrical and electronic equipment WEEE ; End-of-life vehicle ELV ; Policy transfer; Programme evaluation; Product policy; Waste management; Recycling;

    Abstract : Policy transfer of complex interventions often falls into the trap of uninformed, incomplete, and/or inappropriate transfer because the interventions are insufficiently identified with some of their perceived core components. This is no exception in the interspatial learning about extended producer responsibility (EPR) programmes. READ MORE

  5. 10. Towards a Circular Economy with Environmental Product Policy : Considering dynamics in closing and slowing material loops for lighting products

    Author : Jessika Luth Richter; Internationella miljöinstitutet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; extended producer responsibility; Circular Economy; critical materials; Policy Evaluation; product lifetime; lamps; lighting products; WEEE; Product Policy; ecodesign;

    Abstract : A Circular Economy (CE) can help to achieve the sustainable development goal of responsible consumption and production. Product policies, in turn, can support CE objectives by promoting reuse of products, recycling of materials, and providing ecodesign incentives for more durable products. READ MORE
