1. From Facets to Flow: The Electrooxidation of Glycerol on Pd-based catalysts
Abstract : Glycerol, a by-product of biodiesel refineries, has uses in industries such as cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals. However, its usage is small compared to the amount of glycerol produced from biodiesel production. READ MORE

2. Spatially Controlled Covalent Immobilization of Biomolecules on Silicon Surfaces
Abstract : The work described in this thesis aims to achieving surface patterning through chemical activation of thiolated silicon oxide surfaces, resulting in a spatially controlled covalent immobilization of biomolecules with high resolution.Existing chemical methods to immobilize molecules on surfaces do not reach below the micrometer scale while the ones allowing for spatial control mostly lead to non-covalent adsorption of molecules on surfaces, or require several successive chemical reactions to obtain the final covalent immobilization. 3. Electrooxidation of glycerol and methanol on gold
Abstract : Burning of fossil fuels leads to excess CO2 in the atmosphere, causing global warming, threatening civilisation and ecosystems worldwide. As a step in making the society fossil-independent, we need to replace oil, coal, and gas in the transportation sector with fuels originating from sustainable energy. READ MORE

4. Modelling electrooxidation of glycerol and methanol on close-packed transition metal surfaces
Abstract : Burning fossil fuels leads to excess CO2 in the atmosphere, causing global warming, threatening civilisation and ecosystems worldwide. As a step in making the society fossil-independent, we need to replace oil, coal, and gas in the transportation sector with fuels originating from sustainable energy sources. READ MORE

5. Self-charging biosupercapacitors
Abstract : The thesis is focused on an entirely new class of electric power biodevices –self-charging biosupercapacitors, or in other words, charge-storing biofuelcells. The power generating segments of these biodevices rely on differentredox enzymes electrically wired to electrode surfaces. READ MORE
