16. Odour detection in the desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria: antennal structure and function
Abstract : The desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria, is a polymorphic insect that occurs in two morphological and physiological distinct phases, solitary and gregarious, depending on population density. The two phases are reversible at any developmental stage. The gregarious phase produces and uses stage-specific pheromones, that keep the swarm together. READ MORE

17. Role of Endogenous BDNF and NT3 for Synaptic Transmission and Plasticity in the Dentate gyrus
Abstract : The neurotrophins, notably brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and neurotrophin 3 (NT3), modulate synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity in the adult mammalian brain. Recent data suggest that neurotrophins might be mediators of activity-dependent synaptic plasticity. READ MORE

18. Modulation of Neuronal Functions : the Role of SLC10A4
Abstract : Mental health of a person depends on the correct functioning of the brain. The brain and the spinal cord contain many types of cells, of which one important type are called the neurons. Neurons are special in the way they connect to each other to form large networks. READ MORE

20. The Role of Impaired Interatrial Conduction in Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the role of interatrial conduction defects in the genesis of lone paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) using combined approach of non-invasive signal-averaged P-wave ECG, invasive electrophysiological (EP) studies, anatomical studies and animal experiments. Non-filtered signal-averaged P-wave ECG revealed irregularities in orthogonal P-wave morphology and the presence of double-peaked configurations of P-wave spatial magnitude in patients with lone paroxysmal AF compared with healthy individuals (I), suggesting the presence of interatrial conduction delays localised in the posterior-inferior interatrial route.
