  1. 21. Polymer effects on microemulsions and lamellar phases

    Author : Håkan Bagger-Jörgensen; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Poisson-Boltzmann equation; hard sphere; osmometry; small angle scattering; phase behaviour; hydrophobically modified polyelectrolyte; hydrophobically modified polymer; nonionic surfactant; microemulsion; lamellar phase; undulation force; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The main part of this thesis deals with the effects of adsorbing and non-adsorbing polymers when mixed with microemulsion droplets and bilayers in a lamellar phase. The phase behaviour, microstructure and interactions in a nonionic surfactant/ water/ oil-system, comprising penta ethylene oxide dodecyl ether (C12E5) and decane, was investigated. READ MORE

  2. 22. Molecular Modeling of Cardiolipin

    Author : Martin Dahlberg; Arnold Maliniak; Richard W. Pastor; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Biological membranes are assembled from many different lipids. Our understanding of membrane function and morphology is dependent on linking the properties of the lipids to the properties of the membranes. READ MORE

    Abstract : The recent emergence of a number of new viral diseases as well as the re-emergence of tuberculosis (TB), indicate an urgent need for new drugs against viral and bacterial infections.Coronavirus nsp1 has been shown to induce suppression of host gene expression and interfere with host immune response. 4. 24. Atomistic computer simulations of lipid bilayers

    Author : Jakob Wohlert; Olle Edholm; Siewert-Jan Marrink; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Computer simulation has become an important tool for the study of biomolecular systems. This thesis deals with molecular dynamics simulations of one-component lipid bilayers, which may serve as models for biological membranes. READ MORE

  5. 25. Alexandria: A General Drude Polarizable Force Field with Spherical Charge Density

    Author : Mohammad Mehdi Ghahremanpour; David Van der Spoel; Kresten Lindorff-Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular mechanics; Force field; Drude oscillator model; Alexandria library; GROMACS; Physics with specialization in Biophysics; Fysik med inriktning mot biofysik;

    Abstract : Molecular-mechanical (MM) force fields are mathematical functions that map the geometry of a molecule to its associated energy. MM force fields have been extensively used for an atomistic view into the dynamic and thermodynamics of large molecular systems in their condensed phase. READ MORE
