1. Electron transport in microbial chlorate respiration
Abstract : Several bacterial species are capable to use perchlorate and/or chlorate as an alternative electron acceptor in absence of oxygen. Microbial respiration of oxochlorates is important for biotreatment of effluent from industries where oxochlorates are produced or handled. READ MORE

2. Ultrafast Dynamics in Ground and Excited States of Porphyrin Molecules
Abstract : This thesis describes inter and intramolecular dynamics in porphyrin molecules. To create a basis for understanding the energy and electron transfer processes in photosynthesis, the ultrafast dynamics of monomeric chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and bacteriochlorophyll a were studied with ultrashort laser pulses. 3. Characterization of folding dynamics and accelerated electron transfer in proteins
Abstract : The research presented in this thesis is divided in two: The first part is a study of the intracellular protein human copper zinc superoxide dismutase which has been associated with the fatale disease Amyotrophic lateral Selerosis (ALS). ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease of motor neurons, and in the cases where the disease is inheriled (fALS), roughly 15% is caused by mutations in human copper·zinc superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD). 4. Collective Excitation Dynamics in Molecular Aggregates
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to study collective excitation dynamics in molecular aggregates. Half of the work presented here is method development and the remainder is application of these methods to several di.erent molecular aggregates. READ MORE

5. Linear and Nonlinear Transport in Quantum Nanostructures
Abstract : In this thesis, electron transport in mesoscopic semiconductor nanostructures, in particular so-called electron billiards or quantum dots, is studied. The thesis can be divided into two areas: the linear response regime of transport, and the nonlinear response regime of transport. READ MORE
