  1. 1. Wings, turbulent boundary layers and flow separation

    Author : Fermin Mallor; Philipp Schlatter; Ricardo Vinuesa; Ramis Örlü; Manuel García Villalba; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wings; turbulent boundary layers; adverse pressure gradients; flow separation; numerical simulations; wind-tunnel experiments; flow control.; Vingar; turbulenta gränsskikt; negativa tryckgradienter; avlösning; numeriska simuleringar; vindtunnel-experiment; flow control; Aerospace Engineering; Flyg- och rymdteknik; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : The present doctoral thesis investigates the turbulent flow developing around wing sections, focusing on the impact of adverse-pressure-gradient (APG) conditions on turbulent boundary layers (TBLs) and the physics of flow separation. Both experimental and numerical methods are employed to generate high-fidelity data sets and provide an in-depth analysis of the flow. READ MORE

  2. 2. Laser-Based Combustion and Trace-element Analysis

    Author : Yvonne Malmsten; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laser-induced fluorescence; graphite furnace; trace element analysis; LEI; laser-enhanced ionisation; LIF; meta-stable; flow-tagging; NO; OH; counter-flow diffusion flame;

    Abstract : Laser spectroscopy has been utilised as a tool for combustion diagnostics and sensitive trace-element analysis. In the field of combustion analysis, a characterisation of a CH4/N2 - O2/N2 counter-flow diffusion flame has been performed using Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF). READ MORE

  3. 3. Adaptive Finite Element Methods for Compressible Two-Phase Flow

    Author : Erik Burman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; adaptive finite element methods; two-phase flow; compressible flow; conservation laws; hyperbolic systems; a posteriori error estimates; streamline diffusion; stability analysis; quantitative error control; adaptive algorithms; quantitative error control;

    Abstract : In this thesis we develop, apply and analyse adaptive finite element methods with error control for compressible flow problems, focusing in particular on two-phase flow. The adaptive algorithms, aiming at quantitative error control with efficient use of computational resources, are based on a posteriori error estimates, where the error is estimated in terms of the computed solution, the local mesh-size and certain stability factors. Abstract : This thesis describes two different sample preparation strategies for inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), and their ability regarding multi element quantification in complex samples. Sensitivity, repeatability, reproducibility and accuracy were investigated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Hybrid and Dynamic Substructuring Methods for Energy Flow Analysis

    Author : Anders Wilson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fractional derivatives; structural modeling; mid-frequency; finite element method FEM; vibro-acoustics; statistical energy analysis SEA; dynamic substructuring; hybrid analysis; viscoelasticity;

    Abstract : Modeling techniques and solution tools to analyze the dynamic and vibro-acoustic behavior of complex built-up structures are matters of increasing interest, especially for thin walled structures as in transportation vehicles, such as automobiles, trucks, trains and aircraft. In structures like these, the reduction of cost, weight, sound and vibration levels are primary issues for research and development. READ MORE
