    Abstract : If we are being-of-the-world, how can we ever avoid participation? From this question Avhandling / Av_handling (Dissertation / Through_ action) unfolds. It invites to engage in an ongoing continuum of entanglements, where the moment of connection is unavoidable. READ MORE

  2. 2. Minding the Body : Interacting socially through embodied action

    Author : Jessica Lindblom; Tom Ziemke; Shaun Gallagher; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Embodiment; embodied cognition; embodied cognitive science; social interaction; social cognition; embodied action; interactive technology; Cognitive science; Kognitionsvetenskap;

    Abstract : This dissertation clarifies the role and relevance of the body in social interaction and cognition from an embodied cognitive science perspective. Theories of embodied cognition have during the past two decades offered a radical shift in explanations of the human mind, from traditional computationalism which considers cognition in terms of internal symbolic representations and computational processes, to emphasizing the way cognition is shaped by the body and its sensorimotor interaction with the surrounding social and material world. 3. 3. Embodied Evolution of Learning Ability

    Author : Stefan Elfwing; Henrik Christensen; Jarmo Alander; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Embodied Evolution; Evolutionary Robotics; Reinforcement Learning; Shaping Rewards; Meta-parameters; Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning; Computer science; Datalogi;

    Abstract : Embodied evolution is a methodology for evolutionary robotics that mimics the distributed, asynchronous, and autonomous properties of biological evolution. The evaluation, selection, and reproduction are carried out by cooperation and competition of the robots, without any need for human intervention. READ MORE

  4. 4. Embodied Visual Object Recognition

    Author : Marcus Wallenberg; Per-Erik Forssén; Michael Felsberg; Aleš Ude; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; object recognition; machine learning; computer vision;

    Abstract : Object recognition is a skill we as humans often take for granted. Due to our formidable object learning, recognition and generalisation skills, it is sometimes hard to see the multitude of obstacles that need to be overcome in order to replicate this skill in an artificial system. 5. 5. Designing for Peer Learning : Mathematics, Games and Peer Groups in Leisure-time Centers

    Author : Åsa Harvard Maare; Sune Vork Steffensen; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Leisure-time centers; mathematics; embodied interaction; design research; motivation; observational learning; Leisure-time centers;

    Abstract : Constrained by national tests and the mathematics curriculum, teachers have problems finding time for exploratory and hands-on mathematical activities, especially so in classes with a reduced pace of progression, for example because of a large proportion of second-language learners. Could the leisure-time center, where time is not earmarked, provide such opportunities? The conclusion of this thesis is that this can be done, on the condition that designed activities build on the central premise of the leisure-time center: children have the right to choose which activities to engage with.
