  1. 1. The Effects of SSRI Treatment on Human Placenta and Embryo

    Author : Helena Kaihola; Helena Åkerud; Inger Sundström-Poromaa; Jocelien Olivier; Olav Spigset; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antenatal depression; embryo; embryo development; fluoxetine; gene expression; NGF; placenta; protein expression; Raf-1; ROCK; signaling pathways; SSRI; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Abstract : During pregnancy, 4 - 7% of women suffer from major depressive disorder. When antidepressive treatment is needed, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the most commonly used. Although severe complications from SSRI treatment are rare, association with a number of adverse pregnancy and fetal outcomes has been found. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mitochondrial differentiation during the early development of the amphibian embryo

    Author : Lennart Nelson; Barbara Cannon; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amphibia; Xenopus laevis; Ambystoma mexicanum; mitochondria; differentiation; enzymes; carriers; oxidation; development; Zoophysiology; zoofysiologi;

    Abstract : Mitochondria from Xenopus laevis and Ambystoma mexica- num embryos between fertilization and the beginning of feeding were studied: the former with respect to metabolic behaviour, enzyme pattern and carrier activity, and the latter with respect to morphological parameters.The metabolic behaviour of mitochondria was studied by assessing the rates of oxygen uptake in presence of various substrates. 3. 3. Mechanisms controlling striatal projection neurone generation, from patterning to early differentiation

    Author : Håkan Toresson; Klinisk minnesforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pbx; meis; sonic hedgehog; small eye; pax6; gsh2; gsh1; cerebral cortex; striatum; telencephalon; mutant; development; mouse; embryo; retinoic acid; Clinical biology; Klinisk biologi;

    Abstract : The striatum is part of the telencephalon, the most anterior part of the vertebrate brain. From when it first can be identified, telencephalic morphology is highly complex and a wide range of mechanisms has been suggested to participate in its induction, patterning and neurogenesis. 4. 4. Early life stages of brown trout - Anti-predator responses under warming winters

    Author : Karl Filipsson; Eva Bergman; Ann Erlandsson; Johan Watz; Martin Österling; Neil Metcalfe; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; behaviour; climate; cortisol; development; egg incubation; embryo; gene expression; ice; light; mRNA; piscivorous; poikilotherm; salmonid; stress; temperature; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : During winter, juvenile salmonids in boreal streams are vulnerable to predation, mainly from mammals and birds. Encounters with terrestrial predators can be reduced or avoided if fish limit activity to the darker periods of the day or to periods with surface ice. READ MORE

  5. 5. Functions of Heparan Sulfate During Mouse Development : Studies of Mice with Genetically Altered Heparan Sulfate Biosynthesis

    Author : Maria Ringvall; Lena Kjellén; Erik Forsberg; Ulf Lindahl; Erika Gustafsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; embryonic development; gene targeting; lung development; ossification; heparan sulfate; heparin; N-deacetylase N-sulfaotransferase; NDST; proteoglycan; morphogen; biosynthesis; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Abstract : Heparan sulfate (HS) is a ubiquitous polysaccharide on the cell surface and in the extracellular matrix. HS is an important actor in the regulation of cell signaling, especially in the developing embryo. READ MORE
