  1. 1. Identification and characterization of candidate genes for neuroblastoma development

    Author : Cecilia Krona; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cancer; tumor; child; embryonal; neural crest; neuroblastoma; chromosome 1; 1p36; mutation; expression; tumor suppressor gene; UBE4B; KIF1B; PGD; CORT; DFFA; PEX14; ICAT; CASP9; ENO1; MBP1; APITD1; PHOX2B;

    Abstract : Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most common tumor during infancy. It arises from undifferentiated cells in the sympathetic nervous system and is characterized by both clinical and genetic heterogeneity. One of the features of NBs with unfavorable outcome is loss on distal chromosome 1p. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Neuroblastoma Genome and Epigenome - Patient Stratification and Identification of Candidate Genes

    Author : Helena Carén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : cancer; neuroblastoma; epigenetics; DNA methylation; microarray; tumor suppressor gene; tumor; embryonal; neural crest; bisulfite sequencing; 1p36; 11q; MYCN; CASZ1; PIK3CD; PRKCDBP; SCNN1A; TGFBI; DHRS3; KRT19; DUSP23; APITD1; H2AFX;

    Abstract : Neuroblastoma (NB) is a tumor of the sympathetic nervous system, and the most common extracranial tumor of childhood. The prognosis for high-stage NBs is still poor, with survival rates of about 35%. Side-effects of treatment in these young children can also be severe. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Human Y chromosome and its role in the developing male nervous system

    Abstract : Recent research demonstrated that besides a role in sex determination and male fertility, the Y chromosome is involved in additional functions including prostate cancer, sex-specific effects on the brain and behaviour, graft-versus-host disease, nociception, aggression and autoimmune diseases. The results presented in this thesis include an analysis of sex-biased genes encoded on the X and Y chromosomes of rodents. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cannabinoids as modulators of cancer cell viability, neuronal differentiation, and embryonal development

    Author : Sofia Gustafsson; Stig Jacobsson; Birgitta Sander; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cannabinoids; cell viability; neuronal differentiation; colorectal cancer; chick embryo; biokemisk farmakologi; biochemical pharmacology; Toxicology; toxikologi;

    Abstract : Cannabinoids (CBs) are compounds that activate the CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB receptors mediate many different physiological functions, and cannabinoids have been reported to decrease tumor cell viability, proliferation, migration, as well as to modulate metastasis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Human cytomegalovirus in congenital infections and embryonal malignancies of the nervous system

    Author : Nina Wolmer Solberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a herpesvirus that may cause severe or even fatal disease in immunocompromised patients as well as severe developmental disturbances in foetuses infected in utero. In contrast, only mild symptoms are generally observed in immunocompetent individuals. Virus infections are very common in and the global prevalence is 70-90%. READ MORE
