  1. 1. Study the role of patient-specific mutations by genetic disease modeling : From gene to function; A study to understand muscles

    Author : Martin Dahl-Halvarsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Muscles; Myosin; MYH7; Myosin storage myopathy; Laing early-onset myopathy; Drosophila; TOR1A; DYT1; HCM; heart disease;

    Abstract : Many genetic diseases inherited in a dominant fashion have a complex pathological pattern. TOR1A mediated Dystonia-1 (DYT1) is an example of incomplete penetrance, affecting only a third of the carriers. READ MORE

  2. 2. Function of contractile and cytoskeletal proteins in smooth muscle: Effects of hypertrophy and age and desmin removal in a transgenic animal

    Author : Rolf Sjuve; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transgenic mouse; desmin; embryonic myosin; isoforms; myosin heavy chain; age; smooth muscle; hypertrophy; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : In man, the urinary bladder responds to an urinary outflow obstruction with a pronounced dilatation and growth of the bladder wall. This clinical situation can be mimicked in rat by creation of a partial urinary outflow obstruction and the papers included in the present thesis use this animal model to address questions regarding the adaptive changes in the smooth muscle of the growing bladder. 3. 3. From Cell Shape to Body Shape: Epithelial Morphogenesis in Drosophila melanogaster

    Author : Shai Mulinari; Sociologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Odd-skipped; morphogenesis; Hedgehog; segment boundaries; segmental grooves; Actin; Drosophila; DRhoGEF2; Myosin; Diaphanous; Rho GTPase; cytoskeleton; Rho1;

    Abstract : Embryonic development is associated with extensive rearrangements of tissues. The driving force for these rearrangements is generated by a dynamic reorganization of the Actin cytoskeleton of individual cells. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cytoskeletal Regulation During Embryonic Development in Drosophila melanogaster

    Author : Mojgan Padash; Udo Häckers grupp Utvecklingsbiologi i invertebrater; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; DRhoGEF2; Actin cytoskeleton; Rho GTPase;

    Abstract : The development of multicellular organisms is associated with extensive rearrangements of cells and tissues. The driving force for these rearrangements is generated by the cell's actin cytoskeleton. During many morphogenetic processes dynamic rearrangement of the actin cytoskeleton is regulated by small GTPases of the Rho-family. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sarcopenia

    Author : Erik Edström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Aging; sarcopenia; atrophy; regeneration; innervation; dietary restriction;

    Abstract : Sarcopenia (Greek; sarcos: flesh, and penia: poverty) is the pronounced muscle loss that affects the aging population. Sareopenia of the leg muscles results in loss of independence and increased morbidity in the elderly. Emphasizing hind limb motor function, this thesis investigates different aspects of aging and sarcopenia in a rodent model. READ MORE
