1. Dynamic Changes in the Peripheral and the Central Nervous Systems in Patients with Prior Polio
Abstract : After the acute spell of poliomyelitis, patients commonly suffers from sequelae of weakness. Some of these patients experience new weakness after a time period of stable symptoms. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the possible mechanisms for persistent weakness and development of new weakness in prior polio patients. 2. Between Ourselves : Automatic mimicry reactions as related to empathic ability and patterns of attachment
Abstract : This thesis investigated emotional communication in experimentally created face-to-face interaction situations. The hypotheses were based on the conception of a process which leads to emotional empathy, assuming that automatic mimicking tendencies are involved in an automatic part of the process. READ MORE

3. Quantitative electromyographic studies of the perineal muscles in normal subjects and patients suffering from anal or urinary incontinence
Abstract : The aims of the study were to characterize the interference pattern in perineal muscles in healthy subjects with the use of quantitative EMG techniques, to evaluate if prostatic surgery had any effect on the interference pattern and furthermore to examine the interference pattern in the perineal muscles in patients suffering from urinary or anal incontinence. The interference pattern in the perineal muscles was examined with a computerized analysis, the Turns and Amplitude (T/A) analysis, and the innervation pattern of the muscles was examined with single fiber electromyography measuring the fiber density. 4. On the Utility of Representation Learning Algorithms for Myoelectric Interfacing
Abstract : Electrical activity produced by muscles during voluntary movement is a reflection of the firing patterns of relevant motor neurons and, by extension, the latent motor intent driving the movement. Once transduced via electromyography (EMG) and converted into digital form, this activity can be processed to provide an estimate of the original motor intent and is as such a feasible basis for non-invasive efferent neural interfacing. 5. Embedded Controller for Artificial Limbs
Abstract : Promising developments are currently ongoing worldwide in the field of neuroprosthetics and artificial limb control. It is now possible to chronically connect a robotic limb to bone, nerves and muscles of a human being, and use the signals sourced from these connections to enable movements in the artificial limb.
