  1. 1. Modeling Complex Engines as Dynamic Powertrain Members

    Author : Sixten Berglund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vehicle; diesel engine; simulation; supercharging; drivability; toolbox; fuel economy; transient; modeling; turbocharging; control system; powertrain; emissions; performance; dynamic; system;

    Abstract : Engine modeling and simulation have been necessary tools for efficient product development in the automotive industry for some time. The scope of this work is novel engine models, tools, and methods for powertrain research and development. READ MORE

  2. 2. Diesel Engine Modeling for Engine Management System Development

    Author : Markus Grahn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engine control; Diesel engines; Engine management system; Emissions; Simulation; Optimization; Modeling;

    Abstract : Due to increasingly strict emission legislation and stronger demands on fuel consumption, typical passenger car diesel engines become increasingly complex with more and more controllable systems added. These added systems open up for the possibility to operate the engine at more efficient conditions, but it also becomes more challenging to optimize the settings in the engine management system. 3. 3. CFD Modeling of Turbulent Flows in Industrial Applications with Emphasis on Premixed Combustion in Gas Turbines

    Author : Ulf Engdar; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; framdrivningssystem; Motorer; turbulence and premixed combustion modeling ; CFD modeling ; level-set flamelet library approach ; emissions ; gas turbine ; compressor washing ; spray modeling ; Technological sciences; Teknik; Energy research; Energiforskning; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; Termisk teknik; Motors and propulsion systems; termodynamik;

    Abstract : Increasing restrictions on hazardous emissions combined with demands for good profitability from the operators in the energy market have contributed strongly to the development of innovations in which the emphasis is on low emissions and high efficiency. For gas turbine-based power plants, emission of NOx in particular is governed by stringent legislation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Full Cycle Engine Simulations with Detailed Chemistry

    Author : Adina Gogan; Värmeöverföring; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; plasmas; Gaser; Gases; fluid dynamics; aktuariematematik; programmering; operationsanalys; Statistik; actuarial mathematics; programming; operations research; Statistics; detailed kinetics; emissions; engine knock; autoignition; modeling; spark ignition engine; diesel engine; fluiddynamik; plasma; Technological sciences; Teknik; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; Termisk teknik; termodynamik; Motors and propulsion systems; Motorer; framdrivningssystem; stochastic reactor model;

    Abstract : The modeling work developed in this thesis can be divided in two main areas of investigations: autoignition related to spark ignition engine and combustion and emissions formation in relation to diesel engines. A first version of a detailed kinetics engine simulation program, extended to handle full cycle calculations, was employed in order to demonstrate the strong effect that nitric oxide from the residual gas has on the autoignition onset. 5. 5. Modeling of Pulverised Wood Flames

    Author : Ashraf Elfasakhany; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; applied thermodynamics; Thermal engineering; Energiforskning; Energy research; plasma; combustion; pulverised wood; two-phase flow; devolatilization; emissions; Gases; fluid dynamics; plasmas; fluiddynamik; Gaser; Termisk teknik; termodynamik;

    Abstract : The aim of the current work was at development and validation of modeling tools for simulation of pulverised wood flames in furnaces and study how different factors influence on such flames. The numerical model involves different sub-models for the physo-chemical processes, such as, two-phase flow motion, drying, devolatilization and shrinkage of particles, the formation and oxidation of volatile, tar and char, turbulence-chemistry interaction, turbulence-radiation interaction, etc. READ MORE
