  1. 1. Chemical emissions from building structures : emission sources and their impact on indoor air

    Author : Annika Glader; Ingrid Liljelind; Berndt Stenberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; indoor air quality; VOC; building structures; emissions; health effects; moisture damage; PCA; OPLS; inomhusluft; VOC; konstruktioner; emissioner; hälsoeffekter; byggnadsmaterial; fuktskada; PCA; OPLS; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Abstract : Chemical compounds in indoor air can adversely affect our comfort and health. However, in most cases there is only a limited amount of information available that can be used to assess their health risk. Instead the precautionary principle is often applied, i.e. READ MORE

  2. 2. Traffic Emissions of Aerosols

    Author : Matthias Vogt; Douglas Nilsson; Eiko Nemitz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Primary Aerosol Emissions; Carbon Dioxide Emissions; Traffic Aerosol; Urban Aerosol; Traffic Activity; Emission Factors; Eddy Covariance; Aerosol Flux; Atmosphere and hydrosphere sciences; Atmosfärs- och hydrosfärsvetenskap; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Non-exhaust traffic emissions are unregulated, yet the mass emission of non-exhaust particles may be larger than exhaust emissions. In addition, their emission factors (EF) are more uncertain than exhaust emissions. This thesis presents aerosol flux measurements in Stockholm using the eddy covariance method. READ MORE

  3. 3. Reducing Radon Gas Emissions in Concrete

    Author : Magnus Döse; Johan Silfwerbrand; Franz-Josef Maringer; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Concrete; Radon gas; emissions; health; building materials; housing; effective dlose; Betongbyggnad; Concrete Structures;

    Abstract : A multifold of compulsory regulations and recommendations regarding ionizing radiation for building products has in recent years been introduced. Also, industry-affiliated aggregate and concrete companies have implemented environmental goals (Green Council Building 3.0) that shall be fulfilled regarding building materials. READ MORE

  4. 4. Emissions of volatile organic compounds from wood

    Author : Karin Granström; Bengt Månsson; Ann-Margret Strömvall; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; VOC; terpenes; drying; wood; emissions; spouted bed; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : The central aim of this thesis is to support the efforts to counteract certain environmental problems caused by emissions of volatile organic compounds. The purpose of this work was (1) to develop a method to establish the amount of emitted substances from dryers, (2) to determine the effect of drying medium temperature and end moisture content of the processed material on emissions of monoterpenes and other hydrocarbons, (3) to examine the emissions of monoterpenes during production of pellets, and (4) to examine the natural emissions from forests with an eye to implications for modelling. 5. 5. Reducing Diesel Engine Emissions - An Experimental Investigation

    Author : Arjan Helmantel; Chalmers University of Technology; []

    Abstract : In the recent past, the Diesel engine has been improved considerably in the areas ofperformance, fuel efficiency and exhaust emissions. In Europe, these improvements haveresulted in a strong increase in the sales of passenger cars equipped with a Diesel engine. READ MORE
