  1. 1. Novel roles of ErbB3 receptor tyrosine kinase in vesicular trafficking

    Author : Ana Rosa Saez-Ibañez; Ingvar Ferby; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Johanna Ivaska; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ErbB3; Integrin; GGA3; Rabaptin5; PKD; Ack1; endocytic recycling; exosome; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi;

    Abstract : ErbB3 is a catalytically impaired receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) from the EGFR family. Upon ligand binding, ErbB3 forms heterodimers with other members of the family and triggers phosphorylation cascades that promote crucial cellular functions as proliferation, differentiation and survival. 2. 2. Cytoskeletal mechanisms in synaptic vesicle recycling

    Author : Jenny Gustafsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Synapse; actin cytoskeleton; synaptic vesicle; endocytosis;

    Abstract : This thesis explores cytoskeletal mechanisms involved in the recycling of synaptic vesicles. As an initial step it characterizes synapses formed by giant reticulospinal axons in lamprey and defines their use as a model system. The most common type of reticulospinal synapse, "simple synapse", appeared to be most suitable as an experimental model. READ MORE

  3. 3. Molecular mechanisms in synaptic vesicle recycling

    Author : Joel Jakobsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Neurons communicate through specialized contacts called synapses, which consist of pre- and postsynaptic compartments separated by a narrow synaptic cleft. The stimulus- dependent rapid influx of calcium ions into the presynaptic compartment induces fusion of neurotransmitter-filled vesicles with the plasma membrane and release of their content into the synaptic cleft. 4. 4. Molecular mechanisms controlling dynamin recruitment to sites of endocytosis by SH3-domain containing proteins

    Author : Anna Sundborger; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Endocytosis is a general cellular mechanism, which regulates a number of important events, including recycling of synaptic vesicles. Clathrin-mediated endocytosis is the best-characterized endocytic pathway in the cell. This internalization process involves the coat protein clathrin, the adaptor protein AP2 and a number of accessory proteins. READ MORE

  5. 5. Coordination of endocytosis at the synaptic periactive zone

    Author : Emma Evergren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Synapse; endocytosis; clathrin; dynamin; amphiphysin; synapsin; intersectin; actin cytoskeleton; immunogold electron microscopy.;

    Abstract : Neurons in the central nervous system communicate via specialized junctions called synapses. Neurotransmitter-filled vesicles are clustered at these junctions, where they are released in response to synaptic activity. To sustain reliable neurotransmission the synaptic vesicles are recycled locally. READ MORE
