  1. 1. Leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domain (LRIG) proteins : possible prognostic markers in vulvar squamous cell carcinoma, endometrial carcinoma, and oropharymgeal squamous cell carcinoma

    Author : Husam Oda; David Lindquist; Eva Lundin; Ulrika Ottander; Kristina Stefansson; Kate Cuschieri; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vulvar squamous cell carcinoma; endometrial carcinoma; oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma; LRIG1-3; HPV; LMO7; HPV-driven; non-HPV-driven; prognosis; overall survival; disease-free survival; p53; Ki-67; CD8 TILs; CD44.; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : The human leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domain (LRIG) gene family comprises three genes, LRIG1, LRIG2 and LRIG3, which encode the LRIG1, LRIG2 and LRIG3 proteins, respectively. Previous stidies have revealed the different prognostic roles of these proteins in different cancers, and it has been shown that LRIG1 functions as a tumour suppressor in certain cancers via its negative regulation of several receptor tyrosine kinases. 2. 2. Improving endometrial carcinoma diagnostics

    Author : Denis Nastic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Endometrial carcinoma is the most common gynecological malignancy and greatly affects global disease burden. Despite it being among the most common cancers it is relatively understudied and until recently poorly understood. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aspects of Gene Expression Profiling in Disease and Health

    Author : Julia Bergman; Fredrik Pontén; Lars Akslen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer; biomarkers; differential diagnostics; immunohistochemistry; transcriptomics; protein profiling; adrenal gland.; Pathology; Patologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to in various ways explore protein expression in human normal tissue and in cancer and to apply that knowledge in biomarker discovery.In Paper I the prognostic significance of RNA-binding motif protein 3 (RBM3) is explored in malignant melanoma. READ MORE

  4. 4. Methods for Analysis of Disease Associated Genomic Sequence Variation

    Author : Lovisa Lovmar; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Pui-Yan Kwok; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Molecular medicine; microarray; molecular medicine; single nucleotide polymorphism; whole genome amplification; breast cancer; endometrial cancer; human rotavirus; Molekylärmedicin; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ;

    Abstract : In Molecular Medicine a wide range of methods are applied to analyze the genome to find genetic predictors of human disease. Apart from predisposing disease, genetic variations may also serve as genetic markers in the search for factors underlying complex diseases. READ MORE

  5. 5. Aspects on menstrual physiology, pathology and medical treatment of menorrhagia

    Author : Måns Edlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Menstruation; endometrium; coiled arteries; endothelin; vasoconstriction; progesterone withdrawal; menorrhagia; bleeding disorder; von Willebrand Disease; fibrinolysis; tranexamic acid; desmopressin; platelet dysfunction; thrombin.;

    Abstract : Menstruation is the monthly process by which the endometrium in fertile women is discarded if no pregnancy occurs. The physiology and pathology of menstruation has been extensively studied; still several steps are not fully understood. Menorrhagia, heavy regular menstrual bleeding, is a gynaecological symptom of disease. READ MORE
