  1. 1. Endothelial-leukocyte interactions

    Author : Maria Olofsson; Diabetes - öpatofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Histology; endothelial cell; leukocyte; apoptosis; mitochondria; heparin binding protein; vascular permeability; E-selectin; migration; rolling; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Abstract : This thesis describes early inflammatory responses involving interactions between leukocytes and the endothelial lining of the blood vessel wall. An adhesion molecule, E-selectin, which is upregulated on interleukin-1 activated endothelium, was found to mediate rolling between leukocytes and endothelial cells in vivo. READ MORE

  2. 2. Exploring Cellular Dynamics : From Vesicle Tethering to Cell Migration

    Author : Parham Ashrafzadeh; Johan Kreuger; Jonas Fuxe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; angiogenesis; cancer; cell migration; exocyst complex; exocytosis; FGD5; lipid rafts; plasma membrane; receptor trafficking; VEGFR2;

    Abstract : Cells in the body communicate with each other in order to cooperate efficiently. This communication is in part achieved by regulated secretion of signaling molecules, which when released from a cell may activate receptors present at the plasma membrane of an adjacent cell. Such signals affect both cell fate and behavior. READ MORE

  3. 3. Biological consequences of endothelial cell signaling

    Author : Ross Smith; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Przemyslaw Sapieha; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; VEGFR2; Mechanosensing; Retinopathy; Biologi; Biology;

    Abstract : Endothelial cells make up the inner lining of blood and lymphatic vessels, where they participate in functions vital to survival of the tissue; endothelial cells maintain vessel integrity, dynamically respond to the changing metabolic needs of tissues, and participate in many tissue-specific functions. Endothelial cells sense environmental cues which initiate signal transduction pathways that regulate behavior. READ MORE

  4. 4. Identification and Characterization of Proteins and MicroRNAs that Modulate Receptor Signaling, Vesicular Trafficking and Cell Migration in Vascular Cells

    Author : Johan Heldin; Johan Kreuger; Jonas Fuxe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Angiogenesis; cell migration; signaling; VEGF; FGD5; ExoC3L2; microRNA; RhoD; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : Blood vessels deliver nutrients and oxygen to tissues. Importantly, the functions and growth of blood vessels are commonly altered in disease. The inside of all blood vessels are lined with endothelium, a thin specialized layer of endothelial cells that separate the blood from other tissues. READ MORE

  5. 5. Roles of the Shb and Cbl Proteins in Signal Transduction and Blood Vessel Formation

    Author : Lingge Lu; Michael Welsh; Lars Holgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Shb; Cbl; FGF-2; NGF; PDGF; VEGF; VEGFR-2; differentiation; blood vessel formation; PC12 cells; endothelial cells; embryoid bodies; Rap1; CrkII; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : Formation of blood vessels occurs through two processes: vasculogenesis and angiogenesis, which are regulated by various growth factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor, fibroblast growth factor and platelet-derived growth factor. The present study was carried out in order to investigate the roles of the Shb and Cbl proteins in growth factor-mediated signal transduction and blood vessel formation. READ MORE
