  1. 1. Endothelial-leukocyte interactions

    University dissertation from Maria Olofsson, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Box 94, S-221 00 Lund, Sweden

    Author : Maria Olofsson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Histology; endothelial cell; leukocyte; apoptosis; mitochondria; heparin binding protein; vascular permeability; E-selectin; migration; rolling; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Abstract : This thesis describes early inflammatory responses involving interactions between leukocytes and the endothelial lining of the blood vessel wall. An adhesion molecule, E-selectin, which is upregulated on interleukin-1 activated endothelium, was found to mediate rolling between leukocytes and endothelial cells in vivo. READ MORE

  2. 2. Pancreatic extracellular communication. Applications to beta cell cultures and islet amyloid polypeptide aggregation

    University dissertation from ; Chalmers tekniska högskola; Gothenburg

    Author : Diana Ribeiro; [2018]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; in vitro pancreatic models; induced pluripotent stem cells; stem cell differentiation; insulin; 3D-culture; extracellular vesicles; glucose-stimulated insulin secretion; islet amyloid polypeptide; type 2 diabetes mellitus; extracellular matrix; adipose-derived stem cells; Diabetes mellitus; protein aggregation;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease with epidemic proportions due to increased incidences worldwide, persistence of undiagnosed cases, uncontrolled forms of the disease, association with cardiovascular complications, and lack of definitive treatment options. In particular, type 2 DM (T2DM) is placing an enormous financial burden on worldwide healthcare systems that will increase in the futureThere is a need to develop physiological assay platforms that provide functionally relevant models of diabetes in order to accelerate the discovery of new treatments. 3. 3. Molecular Mechanisms in Endothelial Cell Differentiation

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Emma Rennel; Uppsala universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pathology; angiogenesis; FGF-2; VEGF-A; signal transduction; in vitro angiogenesis assay; immortalized brain endothelial cells; H-Ras; tetracycline-regulated gene expression; microarray; telomerase immortalized human microvascular endothelial cells; differentiation; Patologi; MEDICINE Morphology; cell biology; pathology Pathology; MEDICIN Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi Patologi;

    Abstract : Angiogenesis is the formation of new blood vessels from the pre-existing blood vessels. Blood vessels are composed of endothelial cells and supporting musculature. Angiogenesis is regulated by numerous soluble ligands and by cell-matrix interactions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Endothelial Nitric Oxide in the Control of Glomerular Hemodynamics

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : János Pittner; Uppsala universitet.; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Juxtamedullary nephron; afferent arteriole; nitric oxide; endothelial calcium; diaminofluoresceins; fura-2; autoregulation; shear stress; flow; videomicroscopy; Cellbiologi; MEDICINE Morphology; cell biology; pathology Cell biology; MEDICIN Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : The afferent arteriole of the kidney is a unique vascular segment: it is the effector of the renal hemodynamic autoregulation. The use of the isolated, perfused juxtamedullary nephron preparation makes it possible to visualize the afferent arteriole while preserving its tissue surroundings and the functional integrity of the nephron.
