11. Development of a New Biomechanical ex vivo Perfusion System - Studies on effects of biomechanical and inflammatory stress on hemostatic genes in human vascular endothelium
Abstract : The vascular endothelium is a multifunctional interface constantly exposed to biomechanical forces such as shear and tensile stress. Biomechanical stress is involved in the pathophysiological process of the vessel wall and thus affects vascular remodeling, atherosclerosis and thrombogenesis. READ MORE

12. Anaesthetics and the blood vessel wall. Actions of propofol and sevoflurane on sympathetic and endothelial control of smooth muscle function
Abstract : The anaesthetics we use today dose-dependently decrease the mean arterial pressure partly due to direct or indirect effects on the blood vessels. In the present thesis human omental arteries and veins and rat femoral arteries were investigated in vitro concerning the effects of the intravenous anaesthetic propofol and the volatile anaesthetic sevoflurane on the function of the perivascular sympathetic nerves and the endothelial cells. 13. Vascular Effects of P2 Receptors. Changes in Congestive Heart Failure
Abstract : Extracellular nucleotides induce dilatation and constriction of blood vessels by activation of P2 receptors. In this thesis the vasomotor effects of P2 receptor activation were studied in the rat mesenteric artery, and their changes in congestive heart failure (CHF) were evaluated using in vitro pharmacology, electrophysiology and competitive RT-PCR. 14. Antihypertensive treatment and endothelial vasodilatory function
Abstract : The endothelium integrates vascular tone by the synthesis of vasoactive substances secreted abluminally to the underlying vascular smooth muscle. Endothelial function has previously been shown to be impaired in primary, secondary and experimental forms of hypertension. READ MORE

15. Effects of acute metabolic interventions on hemodynamics, endothelial function and forearm glucose uptake
Abstract : Hyperinsulinemia is known to augment endothelium-dependent.vasodilation (EDV). If physiological levels of insulin lead to peripheral, vasodilation and if this vasodilation is an independent determinant of skeletal muscle glucose uptake is however under debate. READ MORE
