  1. 21. Pathophysiology of 5-fluorouracil induced cardiotoxicity : a clinical and experimental study

    Author : Magdalena Cwikiel; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; Cytology; cell culture.; scanning and transmission electron microscopy; endothelium; lipid peroxidation; free radical; fibrinogen; 5-fluorouracil; blood and plasma viscosity; cardiotoxicity; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the pathophysiology of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) induced cardiotoxicity. The aim of the clinical studies was to determine whether hemorheological factors might explain 5-FU cardiotoxicity (I) and if the syndrome was associated with free radical (FR) generation and lipid peroxidation (II). 2. 22. Experimental studies in brain tumours : with special regard to multidrug resistance and the ErbB-family

    Author : Ulrika Andersson; Roger Henriksson; Beatrice Malmer; Erik Blomquist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; glioma; meningioma; endothelium; MDR; Pgp; MRP1; LRP; MGMT; EGFR; ErbB2; ErbB3; ErbB4; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; onkologi; Oncology;

    Abstract : Primary brain tumours, and especially the most common form malignant gliomas, usually display a pronounced resistance to other treatment modalities when surgery fails to cure. Growth factors, such as EGF and its receptor, frequently amplified and overexpressed in malignant gliomas, and factors associated with multidrug resistance have been suggested to at least partially explain the poor outcome. 3. 23. Expression and Regulation of P2 Receptors in Human Circulation

    Author : Lingwei Wang; Sektion II; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Western blotting; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; vascular remodeling; systemic lupus erythematosus; smooth muscle cell; shear stress; real-time PCR; platelets; P2 receptor; gene expression; erythrocyte; ATP release; endothelium;

    Abstract : P2 receptors mediate the actions of the extracellular nucleotides ATP, ADP, UTP and UDP regulating several physiological responses including cardiac function, vascular tone, smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation, platelet aggregation, and the release of endothelial factors. The aim of the present study was to investigate the mRNA and protein expression of P2 receptors in human SMCs, endothelial cells (ECs), erythrocytes and platelets, the regulation of P2 receptors under shear stress in human vessels, the changes of platelet P2 receptors in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and the regulation of plasma ATP levels by P2 receptor on erythrocytes. 4. 24. Vacuum-assisted closure in cardiac surgery - clinical outcome and vascular effects

    Author : Johan Sjögren; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Infektioner; Infections; endothelium; vascular; central hemodynamics; risk factors; long-term survival; mortality; wound closure; cardiac surgery; vacuum-assisted closure; poststernotomy mediastinitis; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this research was to clinically and experimentally evaluate the use of vacuum-assisted closure in poststernotomy mediastinitis after cardiac surgery. Vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) is a new wound-healing therapy based on the application of a local negative pressure to the wound. READ MORE

  5. 25. Impairment of Endothelial Thromboprotective Function by Haemodynamic and Inflammatory Stress - Implications for hypertensive disease

    Author : Erik Ulfhammer; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : tissue-type plasminogen activator; endothelium; fibrinolysis; hypertension; shear stress; strain; antihypertensive agents; inflammation; TNF-alpha; NF-kappaB; MAPK;

    Abstract : The physiologically most important activator of intravascular fibrinolysis is tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA). The endothelium synthesizes and stores t-PA and regulated release of the enzyme is an important local protective response to prevent thrombus extension. READ MORE
