  1. 1. Energy consumption transition : final household energy consumption in the case of Sweden 1920-2010

    Author : Mikael Levin; Lars-Fredrik Andersson; Ann-Kristin Bergquist; Thomas Pettersson; Bengt Kriström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; economic history; households; energy transition; energy consumption; residential; electrical appliances; Carbon dioxide; emission; ekonomisk historia; Economic History;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis examines households’ final energy consumption over the long run by measuring their final energy use and examining how structural, institutional and economic factors affected the demand for energy in the residential sector during the period 1920-2010, a period covering the transition from traditional to fossil to renewable energy carriers. I believe that wider understanding of the historical energy transition and energy consumption within the residential sector might help us gain important insights into the long-run development and the factors affecting energy consumption among the households. 2. 2. Biomass Gasification-Based Biorefineries in Pulp and Paper Mills – Greenhouse Gas Emission Implications and Economic Performance

    Author : Johan Isaksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biorefinery; heat integration; energy efficiency; CO2 emissions; process integration; pulp and paper mill; biomass gasification;

    Abstract : The pulp and paper industry has a great opportunity to take advantage of the experience about forestry and wood handling for production of renewable fuels, chemicals and materials. Residues from forestry, i.e., tops, branches and stubs, have great potential to become a raw material that can replace crude oil or natural gas in many applications. READ MORE

  3. 3. Investigation of Emission Characteristics for Diluted Flames and Renewable Fuels in Gas Turbine Combustors

    Author : Fredrik Hermann; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; framdrivningssystem; Motorer; termodynamik; Motors and propulsion systems; Termisk teknik; applied thermodynamics; Thermal engineering; combustor rig experiments; combustor reactor models; synthetic fuel; liquid fuel; gaseous fuel; UHC; CO; NOx; emission measurements; CO2 enriched; humidified combustion; diluted combustion; premixed combustion; Gas turbine; combustion chamber; Energiforskning; Energy research;

    Abstract : Gas turbines have served as economically profitable and reliable generators of power for the past few decades, and have mainly been used in simple and combined cycles. The increased restrictions on hazardous emissions and the increased demand for profitability have created new prospects for innovative power cycles. READ MORE

  4. 4. High temperature aerosol formation and emission minimisation during combustion of wood pellets

    Author : Henrik Wiinikka; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Abstract : Combustion of solid biomass under fixed bed conditions is a common technique to generate heat and power in both small and large scale grate furnaces (domestic boilers, stoves, district heating plants). From both an environmental and economical perspective, one of the most interesting alternatives to replace oil and electricity for heating of family houses and apartments in Sweden is wood pellets made of stem wood sawdust from pine and spruce. 5. 5. Comparative study of residue pellets from cane sugar and palm-oil industries with commercial wood pellets, applied in downdraft gasification

    Author : Catharina Erlich; Torsten Fransson; Björn Zethraeus; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; energy engineering; Mechanical and thermal engineering; Mekanisk och termisk energiteknik;

    Abstract : While biomass utilization for energy conversion in the industrialized nations is being largely developed, highly efficient and environmentally friendly, many tropical countries still use biomass at low efficiencies and high emission levels. The main reasons for these gaps are both political and technological: the energy markets are different, the Gross National Product (GDP) differs widely, and the feedstock differs in form and conversion behaviour.
