  1. 1. Process Utility Performance Evaluation and Enhancements in the Traditional Sugar Cane Industry

    Author : Eyerusalem Deresse Birru; Andrew Martin; Catharina Erlich; Hailong Li; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sugar cane; energy saving; heat loss; steady state; transient state; CO2 emission; absorption chiller; pellet; bagasse drying; energy perfor-mance; traditional mills; modern mills; waste water; surplus power; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : The need to achieve sustainable development has led to devising various approaches for the efficient utilization of natural resources. Renewable energy technology and energy efficiency measures feature prominently in this regard, and in particular for industries such as sugar production:  the sugar cane industry’s eponymous feedstock is a renewable resource, and mills have potential for increased energy savings via improvements to cogeneration units, electric drive retrofitting, and other measures. 2. 2. Energy Consumption and Running Time for Trains : modelling of running resistance and driver behaviour based on full scale testing

    Author : Piotr Lukaszewicz; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy consumption; Running time; running resistance; driver behaviour; freight; train; energy coasting method; aerodynamic drag; driver model; degree of coasting; slippage; wind; Energy saving; braking ratio; powering ratio; full scale testing; Vehicle engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : The accuracy in determined energy consumption and runningtime of trains, by means of computer simulation, is dependent upon the various models used. This thesis aims at developing validated models of running resistance, train and of a generaldriver, all based on full scale testing. READ MORE

  3. 3. Power line communication and customer equipment

    Author : Sarah Rönnberg; Pertti Pakonen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []

    Abstract : In Sweden, the change from manual meter reading at irregular intervals, to automatic remote meter reading at predefined instants was completed in July 2009. This change is ongoing or largely completed in a number of other European countries as well. Several methods for communication between the meter and the network operator are in use. READ MORE

  4. 4. Quality of Experience on Smartphones : Network, Application, and Energy Perspectives

    Author : Selim Ickin; Blekinge Tekniska Högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; QoE; QoS; Energy; Mobile computing;

    Abstract : Smartphones have become crucial enablers for users to exploit online services such as learning, leisure, communicating, and socializing. The user-perceived quality of applications and services is an important factor to consider, in order to achieve lean resource management, to prevent user churn and revenue depletion of service or network providers.
