  1. 11. Small-scale combustion of agricultural biomass fuels

    Author : Lara Carvalho; Markus Broström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : The ambitious targets of the European Union in increasing the use of renewable energies to 20% of Europe’s energy needs, call for urgent changes, including in the biomass sector. The share of solid biomass for heating purposes could be further increased by replacing oil- and gas-fired furnaces with biomass boilers and by expanding the spectrum of biomass raw materials for small-scale combustion systems. Abstract : Conversion and storage of the solar radiation into applicable forms of energy, using ubiquitous materials is of central importance that quests several disciplinary fields in both applied technology and fundamental science. Harnessing the solar energy received by the earth has the potential to replace the current sources of energy and it is imperative for sustainable development. READ MORE

  5. 15. Underwater radiated noise from Point Absorbing Wave Energy Converters : Noise Characteristics and Possible Environmental Effects

    Author : Kalle Haikonen; Jan Sundberg; Sigray Peter; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Wave energy conversion; renewable energy; environmental impact; marine ecology; underwater noise;

    Abstract : The conversion of wave energy into electrical energy has the potential to become a clean and sustainable form of renewable energy conversion. However, like all forms of energy conversion it will inevitably have an impact on the marine environment, although not in the form of emissions of hazardous substances (gases, oils or chemicals associated with anticorrosion).
