  1. 1. On Sustainability in Local Energy Planning

    Author : Farhad Derakhshan; Energihushållning; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy Indicators; Sustainable Development; Energy Systems; Energy Planning;

    Abstract : Energy is among the main driving forces needed for sustainable development. Provision of energy services, from the supply side to transmission/distribution and use, must include management, and good management requires tools. Energy planning is a tool for managing the community energy system through assessing and balancing supply and demand. READ MORE

  2. 2. Evaluation of Modular Thermally Driven Heat Pump Systems

    Author : Corey Blackman; Eva Thorin; Chris Bales; Christian Schweigler; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sorption heat pump; sorption module; thermochemical energy storage; artificial neural network; built environment; solar energy; gas-driven heat pump; solar cooling; heating and cooling; renewable energy; energy efficiency; experimental; simulation; analytical; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik; Reesbe företagsforskarskola;

    Abstract : The building sector accounts for approximately 40% of primary energy use within the European Union, therefore reductions in the energy use intensity of this sector are critical in decreasing total energy usage. Given that the majority of energy used within the built environment is for space conditioning and domestic hot water preparation, prudence would suggest that decreasing primary energy used for these end purposes would have the biggest overall environmental impact. 3. 3. Green consumption energy use and carbon dioxide emission

    Author : Eva Alfredsson; Einar Holm; Neil Swan; Kerstin Westin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Social and economic geography; Energy consumption; Carbon dioxide emission; Energy intensity; Carbon intensity; Life cycle assessment; Consumption patterns; Lifestyles; Systems analysis; Microsimulation modelling; Demography; Sustainability; Rebound effects; Substitution effects; Kulturgeografi; Human geography; Kulturgeografi; Social and Economic Geography; kulturgeografi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to explore the quantitative potential to reduce energy requirements and CO2 emissions through changed patterns of consumption, given unchanged levels of consumption expenditure. The thesis question is analysed using a systems analysis approach which in this case means that life cycle assessment data on energy requirements and CO2 emissions related to household consumption are combined with a financial and behavioural analysis to make sure that the budget constraint is kept and that both the first and second order effects of adopting a green consumption pattern are analysed. Abstract : This Ph.D. thesis investigates the possibility of using energy storage systems for multiple services by implementing service stacking, with special emphasis on congestion management in distribution grids. READ MORE

  5. 5. Growth versus the Environment - Is There a Trade-off?

    Author : Per Kågeson; Miljö- och energisystem; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; emissions reduction; material intensity; pollution control; sustainable development; resource depletion; environment; economic growth; energy; Environmental technology; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp;

    Abstract : This book shows that the intensity of use of energy and materials in OECD countries is diminishing over time despite falling metal and energy prices. Material demand is sometimes falling in absolute terms, but there are also a few examples of rapid growth. READ MORE
