21. Optimization of process integration investments under energy market uncertainties
Abstract : The increased climate concern in society puts pressure on industries to decrease their energy use in different ways, and a number of studies show that there is a large potential for improved energy efficiency in the energy-intensive industry, for example through process integration. Uncertainties about future energy prices and policy instruments make it, however, difficult to evaluate and compare different kinds of energy-saving measures with respect to net present value as well as reduction of CO2 emissions. 24. An Experimental and Theoretical Study of Decentralized Gas Fired Liquid Heating
Abstract : The effects on the energy situation in industry when gas fired liquid heaters replace steam have been determined by energy surveys performed in a brewery and a slaughterhouse, measurements of the performance and emissions from liquid heaters installed in these industries, and theoretical analyses of the potential energy saving. The theoretical study in the first part of the project provides information that allows assessment of the effects on the energy situation, of part or complete conversion to decentralized heating, under the conditions prevailing in the industries concerned. 25. Integrated Control of Heat Pumps
Abstract : The purpose of the work presented in this thesis is to investigate the potential and prerequisites for improved energy efficiency of heat pump systems using efficient components and proper methods for optimisation of operation. The background is that several investigations have reported on possibilities for increased energy efficiency of heat pumps if variable-speed capacity control is used instead of conventional on/off control.
